Gauging Interest

I have noticed that no one seems to to be posting much here anymore. I am wondering how many blues fans do we have here on the forum? I am talking dyed in the wool, music for the soul types as well as those who love to hear a great blues song played well.
If there's sufficient of us let's get this place a little more active.
I am the first kind of blues fan. I grew up listening to and playing the classics. There's not much call for white blues musicians with blues eyes, so I turned my attention elsewhere. But I have never forgotten my roots. I also love modern contemporary blues and jazz blues fusion. Jazz is also a genre that I love as well.
Let's hear from you and let's see if we can make this place a happening place for blues and jazz also if that turns your crank. I am here to help.

Brian, as much as I like blues, I have much to learn about blues artists. So you'll have my attention and participation if this section of the forum can become more active.
The same goes for jazz. As far as I'm concerned, that would be cool also.

I've been guilty of lurking about, because I don't know that much. But I always enjoy the blues, like Jazz, just never collected it because there's a world of it available across the radio dial (not to mention friends' collections).
What do you think an old flower child like me would enjoy learning about, say, contemporary blues which is my 'specially weak area?

Kira,
When it comes to music there is so much to learn and so little time to indulge. Blues is a genre that sounds easy and not very complex to the ear and perhaps a bit moody to some. It is in fact one of the most difficult genres to play and to get it right. More than any other type of music it is
all about feel and playing ability. Your soul is bared and your skill on an instrument has you standing in a spotlight as it were. It is more than that, it is a tapestry of sounds and emotions delivered in a package through a convenient medium that is meant to stir old ancient memories and when done well it does.
You can learn to be a better player by learning to play the blues as described. It's that simple.
I hope I have peaked your interest somewhat. It is my first love and my passion in music.

Maybe that's why I haven't taken it on, as it requires a daunting level of emotional involvement to get it right. It's not the kind of thing I would take on lightly, to just grab a song I liked and present it half-baked. I respect the blues players too much. They're so dedicated to the blues, it seems like one plays blues
OR one plays other kinds of music.
I guess Hendrix is my favorite blues player, you know his blues numbers... but my Robert Johnson album has been in heavy rotation lately around here too.
I can add one thing in personal reflection: the broker I am the better I play! No joke. When things go well in life my music gets taken for granted, but in times of hardship I need it more than bread.

Kira,
Most every musician that I know has it in them to play the blues. It's a matter of letting your inner feelings bubble to the top and be the catalyst for you to share your inner core with those who wish to listen. A great blues guitar player and friend, Rory Gallagher delivered so much energy and passion each night on tour that he made me feel ashamed that I had forsaken my first love. He bared his soul and he delivered his promise of a great show...........every night.
The blues is infectious. It lives within waiting to get out.

It's one form of music that keeps a steady following, not like forms of rock that have to keep evolving, changing and going in and out of popularity to keep interest going for the next generation.

I'm more jazz than blues, but it's a such a rich vein of music. The problem here at present is that there are so many boards to look at!
