Truss Rod Adjustment Procedure?

Paul,
My '69 4001S is in need of an adjustment. It doesn't have enough back bow. When fretting the 1st and last frets, there is about 1/16 - 3/32 gap.
Will you please describe the procedure for doing this, and if at all possible post pictures of the process?
Thanks!

Pictures don't do much, as this is two things: Prioritization, and FEEL.
On this page, there is an excellent primer on bass truss rod adjustment, written by Paul Yan:

Just slightly off topic, but...
Paul,
I'm trying to buy a Musicman Stingray, but the neck has had the truss rod sheared, and so, adjustment is impossible. I've seen the $230 Stew Mac repair kits, but would you say these are a good remedy? How long would this take a good luthier to do, and what would be an approx cost?

Wints, there are a few qualifications here. First the rod must be broken in the first 3/4" or so, at or just past the threaded portion. Rods broken in the middle don't qualify.
It's a pricey tool, and you'll have to find a luthier who has one, of course. It's been my experience that the really skilled guys invest in this sort of thing, and the hacks will tell you to get a new neck...
As to cost, it's only an hour or two worth of work, so, depending on your local labor rate, you should get away for a couple of hun' or less.

and one more condition on the truss rod repair kit from stewmac - make sure the rod is not stainless.
