I just bought 2 of these to support my acoustic guitars.



(The brand says "Ultimate")
So I was wondering if the padding is compatible with the finish on RIC guitars. The price is right, for sure.

I have to agree. The cheaper usually means the cheesier. The only stand I've used without problems has been a K&M stand.

My old chrome tube stands have what feels like surgical tubing on them. But my studio's so small I can't leave the guitars in them anyway. I have to put one guitar away before there's room for the next one

I remember that post and was going to mention it. I have literally left a guitar on my Ultimate stand for over two years with no reaction. Unfortunately the Ultimate stand I prefer is now out of production. I have two and wish I had bought a couple more. These fold flat with no extra pieces.

Kira: While I believe that there are different grades of surgical tubing, I have never had a problem with surgical tubing and my guitars. The tubing does, however, deteriorate over time.

What John Hall was referring to when he mentioned 'clear tubing' is vinyl tubing - Not surgical. The vinyl tubing emits gasses for years that will affect the CV finish on a Rick. Hospital grade surgical tubing won't cause a problem.

I've been using Ultimate Stands for several years and I've never had a problem with the finish on my Ricks. The newer Genesis series stands now have a material that covers the padding. I like the material, it feels softer than the foam material they had exposed before on the older Genesis stands , but their newer stands do not seem quite as study as the older ones.

So even covering it with cotton won't necesarily stop the finish being affected because the gases will permeate through the weave of the fabric, it'll only slow down the rate at which it reacts with the CV.

Exactly. Keep vinyl tubing away from your Rickenbackers.

In some case, fabric may even make it worse. T-shirt material is the worse, tending to spread the damage as the gases permeate and wick through the material; you get a nice imprint as well. Thick flannel-like materials are better, although sometime the dyes can transfer. Whore house plush as in the cases is pretty good as the instrument tends to float on the hairy fibers, allowing the air to dissipate any out-gassing.

You could probably get the heavily perfumed stuff real cheap.

While we're on the topic...anybody have any experiences with these little F*nder stands?

Picked up a couple of these last minute for RIO back in June. Haven't had my guitars on them for any length of time, out of fear. Made in China, a $15 price tag...has me a little worried . The promo claims that they won't harm guitar finishes, though. Anyone else use these?

If you put any other brand besides Fender on it, the stand will immediately collapse.
