Don't mean to bring up a worn out subject. However, I'm interested to know if anyone is using Dr. Ducks strings. I only bring it up as about a month ago I swapped out from Pyramid Golds, which are rock solid for me, to a set of stock Rickenbacker's. I had only ordered one set of Ric's assuming I'd get some mileage out of stock Ric's as the original's lasted quite a while. I went to order several sets of genuine Ric's this week and dang if they aren't on back order.

While working on a new tune this week, I broke a 010 E. I was not really hard on the Ric but I was using a fairly heavy pick, a dot 73. Normally I use dot 60's. But, over the years, I've found the dot 60's have come to be to weak for me. They are fine for my acoustics and the sound I like but tend to be a bit weak for the electrics.

Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone is using and their success with Dr. Ducks strings. And any Dr. Ducks vs. Stock Ric's vs. Pyramids vs. what ever you are using would be very cool.

I purchased both acoustic and 12-string electrics of the Duck persuasion. The acoustic strings were okay, a bit dull-sounding to me, so I switched back to Elixir Nanos. My electric are also okay, but I found I ended up using them as spares to intercept any broken D'Addario and my new find, Stringdog Tone Rocket strings. I learned of the Stringdogs from another forum, and have used them with great success. Ironically, Elixirs get little love from the forum in question. It doesn't hurt that the Dogs come with an extra G and E. However, to reiterate to your actual question, my ears have had moderate success with the Ducks initial intent, but moreso, as broken replacements.

Addendum: For those forum brothers interested in checking out Stringdogs, they only come in 6-string sets so far. They will also have a booth at the upcoming Arlington Guitar Show, 20 minutes west of Dallas.

I think TI flats from Pick of the Ricks is the way to go. I just need to get a vintage or RI hollowbody 12-string to try 'em out. My 660/12 is currently strung up with D'Addario 10s for 12 strings, because that's all the dang local music store has!

These are halfway decent if you throw away the plain G and the octave A and get yourself some wound .018's instead. I just go with the RIC sets, though, when I have some lying around. I have yet to try the TI's from POTR but am sure to be converted at MARF.
