I wonder, what could be on his mind? At 68, is he finally so crotchety that he's ready to check out and find his desert island?

I recently watched "A Hard Day's Night" for the umpteenth time. Hard to reconcile the waiflike Ringo presented in '64 with the sunglassed, chin-uppity seeming megalomaniac who posted that somewhat threATENING VIDEO TO HIS WEBSITE.

Ringo's done things like this before. At times, he can be real nice about signing autographs. Other times, he tells fans that he doesn't do that anymore.

I was wondering why he set a date like OCTOBER 20. It barely gives me enough time to FedEx him something, if I HAD an address to contact him.
Made me think that maybe he is having an operation or something? Does anyone know if he is ill in any way?
This really surprised me, sounded like he has just had enough of the past.

I'll bet Pete Best doesn't have to deal with all this!

Maybe he's mad 'cause they beheaded his topiary statue in Liverpool.

Sometimes the golden rule of silence should be observed. This is one of those situations for Ringo.............if he had done absolutely nothing. no one would surmise that he had issues with his fans.

Fans who did not receive an autograph would not have been any wiser either. He could have also refused all mail sent to a certain address or addresses.

Posting the video was poor form IMO.

Yah I agree. McCartney doesn't seem to have an issue with the fans....yet..... Whats Ringo's problem?

Ringo could hire people to deal with the fan mail, which is the usual procedure on things like that.

I remember reading the Geoff Emerick book ("Here, There, and Everywhere") and Ringo didn't come out very well, mainly near the end due to the Apple stuff. He noted that there was a "public" funny Ringo, while there was also another side to him.

I agree that McCartney would never have announced that.

I'm sure the video is an attempt to "let 'em down easy."But he needn't have done it -- he simply could have stopped responding. But then of course the tabloids probably would have started a rumor that he can no longer write. But think a bit -- how many things do you think he has signed since 1962 or so? It's gotta be a pain. I recall a McCartney interview during which a fan came up asking to have her picture taken with Paul. He declined, then told the interviewer, "I don't WANT to have my picture taken with everyone." I think that's reasonable.

Paul's fan people have written on his site that he's no longer signing autographs for private parties due to the sheer volume of demand. But I've heard that he bends that rule frequently. He recently jumped out of his limo to sign a rick bass for a fan.

Nah, he just reached out the window! I saw the vid! It was at the Quebec concert (Which I never fail to bring up in conversation... as I was there!)

I feel that if you're going to choose to work in the entertainment business, and you're a success and popular, you should (within reason) keep responding to requests for your autograph, picture, and a minute of your time. If you don't want to do these things, get out of the business.
