My Dad is trying to find out some information on his Steel.
He can not find the serial number.
it is a three legged Ric he has the original case.
It says it is a Rickenbacker Electro.
It has two volume controls one on each side of the pickup.
he does have photos.
He is trying to find the date made.
Also what the value might be.
Please feel free to email me and I will reply.

Where do they put the serial numbers on the steels? On the jackplate, as usual?

My '62 no-legged Rickenbacker Electro has the serial no. on the jackplate. I agree, pictures would help.

You might have an EH-3.

Early (I think pre-'59) steels had the serial number stamped into the wood, usually on the underside. My '57 has it this way, and my '60 has it on the jackplate.

Here are a few of the photo's.

Wow. An early one, perhaps '52-'53. Note Lucite knobs, shield logo plate. This one should hopefully have the numbers stamped on the underside of the wood, at the pickup end.

I like the finish. So country swing.

Is the body metal or wood?

Now, there's something that didn't occur to me. Pounds to pumpkins says it's metal!

You're correct. It has to be metal. What threw me off was the color and also the legs. It's a Model J-6 that has been painted red. I don't think they were offered in that color. The only colors I've seen are brown and gray. I've never seen a J-6 with legs either, but that might have been a option. The only model I've ever seen with Lucite knobs is the Model G.
My J-6 doesn't have a s/n.

It's metal, can not find serial number anywhere. It may have been painted I am not sure.
Any idea what value it may be?

These steels are not very highly regarded and I don't think they are very sought after by collectors, but they are fairly rare in my experience. My experience is that one like this in pristine condition wouldn't sell for more than $500.
