The current, modern cover is 1 1/16" from top to bottom of tangs. The early low profile cover is 3/4".

There would be "issues" surrounding the appearance...

I made one out of stainless steel and it looks fairly correct (from the top or side). Unless you have a mate that can make one for a carton of beer or somthing It would be cheaper to try and find a used one (as rare as they are) I also made an Aluminum pickup bass plate as I could not seem to find a period correct plastic one at the time..

If anyone makes one to sell there would be trademark issues.

I much prefer the low profile cover with its spring loaded feel and sleaker feel over the newer one.......

Tooling on these would be prohibitively expensive to produce, and minimum quantity runs would put this into the "untouchable" category, whether in plastic or metal.

Look very carefully at the instrument that may not be the real thing!

It's easier to make them with the slots, but I wanted my 74 to look like a 74, Not to mention that the higain in the neck with horsie in treble positions could be a styling fauxpar..........
