Snow Patrol are a Northern Irish/Scottish alternative rock band which formed in Dundee, Scotland and Bangor, Northern Ireland. They are based in Glasgow and are signed to Polydor Records. Originally formed as an indie rock band, Snow Patrol have sought a more alternative rock and powerpop sound in recent years on the heels of mainstream success with the songs "Run", "Chasing Cars" and "Signal Fire" from the Spider-Man 3 soundtrack.
Lets cut the nonsense! Paul Wilson plays rickenbackers......

The link works just fine from my mac/firefox/fios. I just watched it. (And several other videos by Snow Patrol as well). Thanks for the link!

The name of the bassist is Paul Wilson. Man does he make that 400X Growl! Really good player too!

Can anyone identify the MG he is playing? It has a "classic" pickguard, yet looks modern. 4001 or 4003? What year/time period?

Also, can anyone tell if he has a Hipshot tailpiece/bridge?

On the other videos by Snow Patrol I watched on youtube, he is using a JG that looks 100%. Same question (if anyone watches the other videos too)

Thanks!

Michael, the black one has a standard tailpiece, but the maple looks to have the Hipshot one on it. The MG upper horn looks like the late 80s/early 90s fatter horn. He could have changed to a vintage pickguard.

Rumour has it (confirmed by JH) that he couldn't get his bass in time for a performance and JH sent him one. :) Now THAT's cool!

Not to resurrect an old thread but did anyone notice there was something weird going on with one of the knobs on Paul Wilson's bass?

Didn't it fall off later on it the show? Or am I mixing it up with another band in an other episode of Live at Abbey Road?

I'm not sure but I noticed it first early on the video when he picks his bass up a bit. I was like "why is one of the knobs different?" then I saw it again when he was playing and I was wondering if his bass had a secret weapon no one knew about. If you watch all three of the Live from Abbey Road videos you'll see he uses his pickup switch quite a bit. Its in the middle in the video posted here, but in the one for Chasing Cars its in the neck position, and in another one its in the bridge position but his tone never changes at all.
