Ghost Writer In the Sky
Well, he flew back in Korea
And death couldn’t shoot him down
Ever since he got his wings
Nothin’ kept him on the ground
Did some crop dustin’ here and there
Sky writin’ at hometown games
Wedding announcements got lost
Behind his smoky ole plane
You could see it in the distance
Moving through the misty night
Faded paintings of Norma Jean
And Old Glory on the side
He still had his flyin’ jacket
He’d salute when he went by
Sailing in the dark, in between the stars
Like a ghost writer in the sky
Some said that ole plane of his
Gave out in the northern hills
Some said he couldn’t take a year
Of quack doctors, pain and pills
Durin’ last July’s fireworks
At the fairgrounds on the Fourth
Were those thin black clouds in the hills
Or a smoky plane to the north
You could see it in the distance
Moving through the misty night
Faded paintings of Norma Jean
And Old Glory on the side
He still had his flyin’ jacket
He’d salute when he went by
Sailing in the dark, in between the stars
Like a ghost writer in the sky
When he flew back in Korea
Death couldn’t shoot him down
Now ever since he got his wings
Nothin’s kept him in the ground…
