In recognizing that I have awakened up an hour earlier than I planned this morning, I wondered about the time changes around the world. I have come across this Informative Site on Time.

I think the whole concept of adjusting the clocks twice a year is silly. I suppose it made sense at one time and maybe saved on electric usage, but these days, I doubt it does much other than cause confusion...

I keep thinking about this topic, changing clocks twice a year.

Since we've got folks from all over the world, this might be a good place to ask.

I know in the U.S. there are a couple of states/areas that don't bother with this. I got to wondering, is this pretty much a world-wide thing to do, or is it just a North America thing?

Places near the equator, where daylight hours don't vary much over the year, tend to eschew the summer time phenomenon. In Oz, Queensland, which covers the North Eastern corner of the continent, doesn't join in with the rest of us. Western Australia, which covers the entire west coast, has just started experimenting with the idea. Their problem is that daylight hours vary enromously across the state.

This one has the time and a daylight map.

I never understood the need for DST here in SW Michigan - we are physically in the Central time zone but are on Eastern time. During DST in the middle of summer, it stays light till 10pm easy.

Cool. I've got a little program called "Home Planet" that does about the same thing. You can see where it's light & dark, set your location, and even use it to see what start are up in the sky above you.

I guess I found the real answer to my question here:
http://www.worldtimezone.com/daylight.html
It's a map of world time zones showing which areas follow DST & which don't.

BTW, I still think the concept is silly...
