Wow, John!
Sorry, no info here, just my eyes are popping
Very cool musical buried treasure. I think some people spend that much on a pre-fifties' horseshoe pickup alone, no?

You have done very well my friend. I suspect Richard will have something to say about your B6.
I would love to see a series of some closeup photos of this instrument.

Nice, JB! Bringing it to MARF?

Sure, if it gets here in time!
I really dig the fact that the case is original, too!

Did a little bit of reading and found that this steel is probably circa-1940 or so, and is indeed a B6 (thanks Peter

).
Of course, I defer to Richard for
the final word on what it is and how old it is.

Very cool. The case is very cool, and the horseshoe is a big plus. I seem to remember someone saying two knobs meant postwar, but I don't know.

Hmmm... a "K" in the case, "H" on the instrument. Could be a mismatch?

I just love steel guitars. I hope you'll be able to do some recording with your new treasure, John. It doesn't get any better than a steel guitar, twin fiddles, and "San Antonio Rose."

Good eye, Dog! Either way, I think I can safely say the case is old.

John,
You stole that steel.
Very cool B-6 with T-logo, 1946 through 1949 or a little later.
Although the "h" spelling was officially replaced by the "k" in "47/"48, many instruments were produced with the original spelling into the "50s. The case is period correct.
What's all the junk on the back?

Hey, cool. Thanks Richard.
What would one of these be worth usually?
I figured the "junk" was just a whole lot of missing paint?

Be sure to open it up and see if the newspaper is still inside, that's the best way to determine date. I was sold a '37 that turned out to be a '38.

John,
Right now it's hard to put a value on old lap steels.
It's worth at least twice what you payed for it, if it works well and can be cleaned up.
The B-6 was not painted and is made of black Bakelite. So, the stuff on the back is not paint loss.
Jason,
The B-6 was not stuffed with newspaper at the factory. The best way to determine production date is using pot. codes.
