"Come Out Tonight"

Hi, Folk.
I've been burning the candle at both ends all week, spinning out my latest concoction for your amusement.
This one's just a dance number with nostalgic lyrics. What made it special was the contribution of my long-time partner Doug Adamz on violin. This one has been the toughest and most complex so we're glad it's complete to satisfaction. Whew!

Come Out Tonight
And though it's been a while
I want to see you smile
Won't you do your hair up fancy
Put on your party clothes
Powder off your nose
Don't you want to come out and go dancing
Come out tonight there's a band rockin'
By the cool cool water with the sweet smoke rising
Put your hand in my hand honey
Don't you want to come out tonight
Come out tonight it's a new generation
Though it's so many years since the British Invasion
Don't you still feel the love
Don't you still want to come out tonight
And though it's been a while
I want to see you smile
Won't you do your hair up fancy
Put on your party clothes
Powder off your nose
Don't you want to come out and go dancing
Come out tonight for some excellent party
In the sweet sweet comfort of a beautiful friendship
Ain't it so much better when
Together we can come out tonight
Come out tonight there's a band rockin'

I like the fiddle section. Nice contrast.
And the Hits just keep on comin'!

Thanks, Jim. You ought to get a kick out of Doug's music, too. He's done about ten albums with everything from belly-dance to Texas folk and wrote for the Joffrey Ballet and the Kronos Quartet. His own bands, "Light Rain" and "Bravo" are highly celebrated around these parts. I was in Light Rain 30 years ago and we recorded one album, "Dream Dancer". A google search will fill you in on my amazing old buddy, Doug Adamz.

Kira,
Once again, you take me from 1962, "Please, Please Me," to "The Beatles" (I mean the white album) with the fiddle.
Love the transition...then back again. I am so jealous you know as many fine musicians as you do. I would love to hang in your circles or be in the studio with all your creativity! Is it MIDI or a real fiddler? Very uplifting and jumpifying.

Joepee, the fiddles are genuine wood and wire in the masterful hands of my old running buddy Doug Adamz. We recorded his solo and the string trio bits with my new condenser mikes on the boat here during a huge winter storm. I'm amazed that you can't hear the background patter and pummel in the final mix.
The usual arsenal of gear (ricks 320 and 4001) my mini strat, my Martin D-16, oh, and a new sound for the 320's rhythm part: a Vox AC30 Amplug that I picked up this week. I love it.
We had a mac die on us and had to replace it during recording session yesterday. My good friend Marty Step oversees all my computer-related needs for this project, thanks Marty, or I'd have been dead in the water.
I'm taking a break for a day or two but number six is already simmering to a boil in the old noodle pot.
Thanks for your kindness, Joepee, I've got a GarageBand file karaoke version for you of that last one if I can figure out what happened to it. The mac ******* out during upload. when I figure it out I'll give you a shout.

I'm speechless.... yet another great one.... how d'ya keep them coming????
Really love the "organic" sound and the attention to detail right through to the outro.
Pity about your Mac. Technology seems to be fine until you really need it....and it always seem to break down on a Sunday afternoon....

Evan, I've been working on this album for 35 years. My backlog is worse than PW's. I finally just decided it was time and set out to put the pieces together and make it happen. As always, when I find myself in the right moment doing the right thing, fortune smiles and good things come my way. Many friends helped get me going and my better half JD takes care of most of the many physical distractions of life. I'm able to stay very focused on the music.
I use no loops and as few software instruments as possible, entered manually and tweaked with loving care. I found that the software instrument presets are only a good starting point but with some fiddling about with the effects and the midi track notes they can be quite realistic, especially for drums. A better digital drummer is definitely in my future, though. I kinda hit the ceiling of what GarageBand can do in building the complexity of this song. I had to break it into sub-projects and ping-pong sections together. Marty has supplied me with Logic

which looks like GarageBand on steroids. I plan to break it in on the next song.
Cheers to you, Evan!

Thanks so much, Tom. I just picked up my Epi Sheraton from having it set up. I was gonna take the day off but I can't resist channeling John Lee Hooker for a little while to get ready for the next one ...

Hi Kira,
I have already predicted this will be a CD that will attract a wide audience based on past submissions. Keep up the great work. This is a good one too.

I'll be looking to obtain front row seats when you debut this album in concert.

Hopefully then you'll still remember my name.

To quote a famous Sam Cooke song "It's been a long, long time coming but I know a change gonna come oh, yes it is" Personally, I can hardly wait for that day.
