Is there anything I can do to lower the 2 bridge poles to stop from gouging into my hand ? The action will probably be too high if I lower them out of sight.

Maybe a 5002-style bridge cover? I think Winfield sells them.

Absolutely, I do have to alter my style a bit when playing it. No heavy palm-muting.

You guys talking about those bridge adjusting Allen setscrews?

They're too long on 450V63s (1/2"); RIC uses the same length ones on the bass bridge, but there they're out of the way... I'm not sure of the threading, as I'm at my office and all my geetars are at home...but if they're 6-32s, they're the same screws.

Simply order some 5/16" long setscrews from McMaster, or try to find them locally at a good fastener shop. Depending on your bridge adjustment, you may even be able to use shorter screws. No more chopped-up hands.

You might try Home Depot or Ace Hardware ... IIRC, HD had the 'correct length' ones in stainless steel, so they might have shorter ones, too.

Nothing wrong with that...I tend to buy in bulk for obvious reasons; plus, online ordering saves me time.

What I found at my local Ace was all too short in that thread size; they buy those standard rack packages, and the oddballs aren't typically stocked.

But HD has a pretty good selection of some stuff.

John Entwistle would have his techs file the bridge poles on his bass bridges so he wouldn't tear his fingernails when he played towards the bridge. But of course, I don't suggest you file the poles...
