Hi all,
I am a brand new member posting for the first time. A little bit about myself, I played bass with the band Boston from 1986 until I quit in 1997. I played bass sang on all the bands tours. I also played and/or sang on the albums "Walk On", "Greatest Hits, and "Corporate America" and have co-written a number of songs with Tom Scholz. Before Boston I also played bass and sang with Aldo Nova and Guiffria. I am a HUGE Rickenbacker fan.
I own a 4003 that Mr. Hall from Rickenbacker gave me in 1984. I also have the solid body 12 in fireglow.
I have a question, does anyone have an idea of what the pricing of a 4005 bass would be these days. I would love to obtain one, however, I am not a collector, I want to play it, so pristine doesn't matter, original does. I realize they are all vintage these days, and are probably expensive.

Welcome David! Quite an impressive list of credentials there. Bet you've got some stories.
4005 pricing does vary by "era", but not much. Are you specifically looking for a 60's model, or would you be okay with 70's/80's?
How about rounded top vs. double bound?

Welcome, David!
If you can make it, please come to MARF, the Rick fest we are having at Pick Of The Ricks next weekend. There will be some 4005 models that you can check out. I will be bringing my '67 4005WB.
Look for info on MARF in the Conferences and Confluences section of the RRF.

Welcome to the forum David
!
Glad to hear you are a huge Rickenbacker fan....Just a rough guestimate....a nice 4005 bass would probably run you anywhere between $4000 and $8000...depending on the year and shape it is in but I am just guessing. I'm sure some forumites that own a 4005 will chime in and elaborate a bit further. I for one do not have one. They do come up for sale here on the forum from time to time and you will find a few on Ebay at times. Good luck on your 4005 quest! Remember....Rickenbacker is

Welcome David,
Glad to have you with us!
Just a quick link to an Ebay auction currently running.
Looks like a really nice one, but what puts me off is it is a ZERO FEEDBACK seller. That always worries me on a big ticket item.
They do pop up from time to time on Ebay.
This one isn't too far from me. IF you think you might want it, I can take a spin down to Miami and take a peak (to make sure all is on the up & up). We forumites do this to try to help each other out when we can....I can also help out with pickup & shipment.
Again, welcome, happy hunting and IF you can get to MARF (Mid Atlantic RIckenbacker Fest) or even SERF in February in Orlando, I'm sure you will see some goodies sure to please!

There has definitely been some concerns about this bass. I have emailed the seller and have not received a reply to my questions. I would be carefl with this.

Welcome, David!
The eBay auction cited above has been removed, so it was probably a scam.
I will echo the previous comment about attending a Confluence such as MARF, as it provides the opportunity to check out an instrument in person.

Hey David, welcome to the forum! I've always been a big Boston fan as well as a fan of the 4005. I've never been able to justify the high expense of one these days though, wish I'd bought one back when they were "cheap"
