From wikipedia
"His last days were spent celebrating the music and legacy of Jimi Hendrix with old and new friends on the 2008 Experience Hendrix tour. For nearly 4 weeks, the tour traveled coast-to-coast bringing the music of Jimi Hendrix to nearly 50,000 fans across the country. In addition to Mitchell, the tour featured Buddy Guy, Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Eric Johnson, Cesar Rojas and David Hidalgo (Los Lobos), Aerosmith's Brad Whitford, Hubert Sumlin (Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters), Chris Layton (Double Trouble) as well as Eric Gales and Mato Nanji (Indigenous). The tour ended 5 days before Mitchell was found deceased.
Mitchell was found dead at appoximately 3 a.m. on November 12, 2008 in his room at the Benson Hotel in downtown Portland[5]. Mitchell, 61, apparently died of natural causes, the Multnomah County Medical Examiner said."
R.I.P. Mitch.

My brother and I saw that tour a couple years ago and Mitch played two songs. His drumming had changed considerably from back in the day and he seemed to have trouble playing faster things like he used to play. My brother and I both theorized that since drumming is a physically demanding instrument, perhaps he was having some physical problems. Sad to see him go so soon.

The JH Experience was a great show when I saw them in '69. Alas, Mitchell was the last surviving member. RIP, Mitch.

I guess that goes with getting older, all the people you've known and admired just start fading away.
RIP Mitch...

He was one of the best drummers from that era. Easily as fun to watch in the clips as Keith and Ginger.

He showed The Stones' Rock and Roll Circus what he could do when he played "Yer Blues" with Lennon and the Dirty Mac. RIP, Mitch, you will be missed!

That show was just in Detroit recently, I had a gig so unfortunately I missed it. Sorry to hear about him passing. The rhythm section in heaven just got a little more exciting. RIP Mitch.

Lest you not forget Clapton (aka God...) !! No worries though, Clapton is above death...it will likely never happen...
