Jody Reynolds RIP

I understand that Jody Reynolds has passed on. I don't know how many will remember this track but it will always have a special place for me. A tragedy averted here in this song but there would be a string of tracks by other artists to follow that ended badly. Name them.

The night was black, rain fallin' down
Looked for my baby, she's nowhere around
Traced her footsteps down to the shore
‘fraid she's gone forever more
I looked at the sea and it seemed to say
“I took your baby from you away.
I heard a voice cryin' in the deep
“Come join me, baby, in my endless sleep.

Why did we quarrel, why did we fight?
Why did I leave her alone tonight?
That's why her footsteps ran into the sea
That's why my baby has gone from me.
I looked at the sea and it seemed to say
“I took your baby from you away.
I heard a voice cryin' in the deep
“Come join me, baby, in my endless sleep.

Ran in the water, heart full of fear
There in the breakers I saw her near
Reached for my darlin', held her to me
Stole her away from the angry sea
I looked at the sea and it seemed to say
“You took your baby from me away.
My heart cried out “she's mine to keep
I saved my baby from an endless sleep.

[Fade]
Endless sleep, endless sleep

R.I.P. I love this song even though it spawned so many teen tragedy tunes.

Wow. I just stumbled on this thread. It's interesting to me because my brother bought a guitar from Jody Reynolds. It would have been around the mid-sixties. It was a Gibson Super 400, absolutely gorgeous and relatively new, dating from around 1961 or so (I may not have all my facts right, but it was something like that). I think the purchase price was $200. My brother still has the guitar, it's in excellent condition and has been appraised at an astronomical price.

RIP Jody.

Endless Sleep was the first hit in UK for Brit rocker Marty Wilde, made number 4 in 1958.

Here's Marty's original version and also a live version from 2007, amazing when you think.
