I hope that all of those in the Los Angeles area are safe. I have been horrified by the videos of the fires in the area. I cannot imagine how frightening they must be. This does not seem to be a problem that has any obvious solution if we are to live with nature.

Thanks Peter - a high school near where Joey Vasco and I live burned down! And we were at MARF!
Anyway, I think we're OK (or closer to it ) now - but it still smells like a campfire outisde my house.

Thanks Peter!
It was pretty grim around here. I work in Fullerton, and on friday, the sky was BLACK at 2:00pm. Had to wear a respirator just driving around, and had to leave work early because the air quality was so bad- the shop filled with smoke, just hanging in the air.
These fires seem to come around every year, around this time, but we never know where they will strike (except on a dry hill somewhere..) Plenty of people are going to have a rough time without their homes now. Just terrible...

Sorry, didn't see this until today. I'm at Cal State Fullerton right now, and it's gorgeous outside. Maybe living in a chimney for four days helped me appreciate the blue skies right now! It was good yesterday too.

Thanks Peter. I live near Collin, and not too far from either Kenny, Joey, or Gary. It was really ugly on Saturday; the sky was completely obscured by ugly, orangey-yellow smoke that blocked out the sun as well, in addition to an overwhelming/pervasive odor of burnt wood and brush. Ash rained down from the sky on both Saturday and Sunday, dusting cars, streets, sidewalks, et cetera, and remains on the ground. The fire was mostly burnt out by yesterday, though a small remnant is evidently still burning somewhere. The blue sky is back, the sun is back, and the air smells fresh again.

I lived in Sylmar, and it's not far from my current house. The air is smelly, the sunsets red. Ashes on our cars even down here at LAX!
Our firefighters have been doing remarkably. Bless them all!

Isn't that relative? I still remember the air from when I lived in L.A. in the '80s.

Of course.

Relative to Saturday and Sunday, the air smells like an ocean breeze...living in LB helps, I suppose.

And everyone complains about the rain we have in the Northwest....personally I'd rather have the rain and nice green scenery than the smog and fires and brown scenery of the LA area.
Hope everyone is safe down there though!

I remember the Berkeley hills fire of 1990. I was like what you all described and I never want to see anything like that again. My prayers and thanks that all our members appear to have come through safely.
Now, back to playing our Ricks, ...

It was really great to hear on the news today that the fires are coming under control. Hopefully the worst is over. Everyone stay safe and healthy.

Thanks for the well-wishes, everyone. I live much farther south so I was relatively unaffected ... except that I drove to Palmdale (north of LA/Orange County) Saturday morning, and when I was on the way back, I got stuck in the closed-57-detour-to-the-60 traffic mess ... it took about an extra three hours of slow going on the freeways to get home (about 2-1/2 hours for the trip up there, a bit over five hours on the return trip).
But I saved $175 in shipping charges!
