40 Years Ago Today White Album

The release in the UK of the 'White Album' on this date, and four days later in the U.S.. Still my all time 'go to' LP of the Beatles. I still consider it one of their better albums...for the most part. Hard to think it's been so long.
On a somber note, 45 years since the JFK assassination.

While I do remember watching the JFK funeral on TV, having been five years old, I don't really recall news of the assassination itself.

Five years later, the family was doing some Christmas shopping at the local J.C. Penney's store. The record "department" was right
under the escalator. At ten years old, I wandered in and saw these all-white albums. I don't remember the price but knew enough to
realize it was more than the average L.P.I took one out to see what on earth this was all about. saw some numbers then slowly
noticed the embossed letters:

The BEATLES

I ran back to the family going, "BEATLES! BEATLES! BEATLES! <pant, pant, pant>" My older brothers went, "what about them?"
All I could do was point "<<< over there!" Can't remember if oldest brother bought it that day or got it as a Christmas gift, but we
practically wore that thing out. Revolution 9 was Scary in parts.

Definitely a red letter day for me when I bought it - two copies actually............. one to play the hell out of and one for posterity - which I reckon would still be mint!!

Stan, I'm surprised that more Kennedy related programs aren't on. Although I have seen most of them. Nevertheless I was surprised. I'm one of those in the minority that thinks Lee Harvey acted alone.

Not all together, Brian. I think Oswald was the lone gunman myself, ever since reading the book, "Case Closed".

Can't believe the White Album has reached 40 years! It shows how fast time is flying.

While it's got some amazing songs on there, it's also got two of the worst Beatles songs on there, "Happiness Is a Warm Gun" and "Revolution 9". Not my favorite Beatles tracks, but I'm sure some people will stand for those songs, should they like them.

This was on my local PBS radio channel this morning. Check your local listings. I remember my sister getting the album for a Xmas present ( I was 7, she was 10). My Dad got it because he thought the white cover was cool. He would have been 35 at the time. Come to think of it, we used to listen to the soundtrack of "Hair" on the way to grandma's house. :D My brother's and I would listen to the Beatles, Cream, the Stone's etc upstairs in their bedroom while building models. I remember turning the records backwards to see what they said- it was kind of scary at 7 years old.

I was very lucky, I received the album as a gift in 1978. When I opened it much to my surprise the vinyl was white. Back then I thought all albums were black. Actually vinyl resin is clear. I have many examples of colored vinyl records in my collection but the White Album is the coolest!

I've got that one, too. I think I mentioned elsewhere on this forum, but I also have the 62 - 66 "hits" LP on red vinyl, and 67 - 70 on blue vinyl.
