Marc,
That set is a superb example of a very early Frypan and Rick amp of the same era.
The seller is a collector, who really knows his stuff and is a straight shooter.
I don't think he needs to sell the set. A few months ago he told me that he was going to concentrate only on other specific types of guitars.
He seems to me to be a very reasonable guy and probably would accept an offer that isn't insulting.

well, he didn't immediately decline my second offer...so maybe I'll get lucky.

It's not what I had in mind when I wanted to buy a steel, however..I do believe times like this are good for collectible items.

Marc,
If you buy that steel, you'll have a rare treasure. I love all of mine.
You might not be able to sell it for a profit immediately, but when the economy turns around, you probably will be able to.
Personally, I have never looked at my collection as an investment; I just try to enjoy them. Art for art's sake.
Good luck. Let us know what happens with the auction.

It's mine!

The line "art for art's sake"..that about covers it. How often does one get to buy one of the first electric guitars?

My plan is to take the amp to a qualified person to have it checked out before I play around with it.

blame it on JB and J-Dog...maybe I'll call it my J-tar...

trying to figure out what model amp that is. in the Vintage Guitar Price Guide, the only amp shown as being made in the 30's was the 200A, but it doesn't give any description of the amp

That amp does look cool, but yes, amps can look cooler.

Wow, awesome Art Deco styling; an amp fit for Charlie Christian. Looking at it makes me want to pick up my ancient Electromatic and play "Avalon" or "Caravan".

Congrats on the frying pan/amp combo Marc!! Very cool! It looks super clean and I'll bet it sounds fantastic :D
