And by that, I mean shows booked that are specifically seasonally oriented. Tell us what and where.

I have one on Sat. Dec. 13 at Douglas County Bank, here in Lawrence. Basically an hour or hour and a half of me being a live juke box playing Christmas carols on my guitar or banjo, while the kiddies get ready to visit with Santa Claus. Details are here.

Cool! I have nothing this year, but the Christmas before last I did a couple of gigs with some friends that consisted of Christmas songs played surf style. :D

Christmas carols on a banjo?

That's kind of like Gregorian chants on a bagpipe...

Should I be getting my new guitar for Christmas, I might (have to) be performing at my Uncle and Aunt's Christmas eve party (it's really my dad, my uncle (his brother), my grandma (their mom), my mom, my aunt (uncle's wife) and my three cousins (their kids)). My Uncle requested it!

Last year, I had learned "Substitute" by The Who and was really digging the song, and wanted everyone to hear how good it was, but my uncle said "The Christmas eve entertainment spot has been occupied by your cousin Mark." Mark ended up doing a (******) magic show...probably heard from my Grandma that I was learning a new song to play at Christmas eve and did it just so I couldn't perform. Until recently (because of a talk from his dad), he really hated me...bought a guitar so he could be as good as (if not better than) me, ended up spilling soda all over it and breaking three strings.

But yeah, should I have a new guitar, I'll have to perform. Can't do anything to risque or obnoxious (The Stones, The Who)...better do some Beatles or Petty songs to make everyone happy. :)

I always try and stay away from "You Don't Know How It Feels" when I perform for family or kids who aren't in high school, but when I'm jamming with friends, out it comes!

If I perform Beatles, I'll probably do songs from like "Please Please Me" to "Hard Day's Night".

Umm...Jake, shouldn't you be studying? Stay the hell out of here until after the exams...or you can kiss that new guitar goodbye. Just some friendly advice from someone who doesn't want to see you lose your Christmas gig 'cause Santa didn't bring you that new guitar.

I told everyone I was dropping in for the weekend, as I had no homework...but you're right...

 Yeah! Try "Jingle Bells" or "Good King Wenceslaus." It ain't any more unrealistic than playing the blues on a Rick 360/12 string. But the trick is in playing these in the clawhammer style, not Scruggs.
