So I'm filling in on bass for a local metal band next Saturday called Sobriety. Which bass should I take?

I don't suppose you've got a B.C. Rich Warlock lying around anywhere.

Seriously...if you're planning on taking a Rick and your inventory is what's listed in your sig, then I'd take one of the 4001s (the '79 maybe?). If it doesn't necessarily have to be a Rick, you really can't go wrong with a Precision Bass...or even a StingRay (if you've got either of those at your disposal). My personal choice would be a P-Bass.

Report back after the gig, J Dog, and let us know how it went.

What's in the signature is it. I've unloaded my Tune 6 string, Fender Jazz fretless, and Fender Jazz V basses to get some of those Ricks in the sig. I'm really leaning towards the 4002. Humbuckers, the bass already has tons of dings and chips, seems like a good choice for hard rockin'.

Yeah, I saw the 4002 in your sig, but since I've never really heard one, I didn't feel qualified to recommend it. You're probably gonna want something that cuts through, which is why I suggested a 4001. I know that will. If you think the 4002 will do the job, then by all means go with it...you can judge its tone better than I. Good luck and have fun, J Dog!

That's an excellent point. Now I'm even more torn. I suppose the 73 would cut through the best. The 79 has the push pull, but it's still kind of "Rick ordinary" compared to the 73, which sounds like it has some chompers.

Jdog, it doesn't matter what you bring as long as it is BLACK.

That means I'd have to go with the 73. Now what to wear?

Dude you threw me. I was wondering where my post went for a second.

Black t-shirt it is. Do I go Peter Gabriel, Doc Tahri, or WUTZ 1075 AM?

That's a no brainer, J Dog. As if you even have to ask. WUTZ all the way.

Just put straplocks on the 4002.... about 90% certain this is the one I'll use.... but the band hasn't called me to practice yet, and I thought they would have by now... maybe the bass player is back in the band? We shall see. I am really looking forward to being a "genre tourist." I hope it happens.
