Well folks, it looks like the price of a 1966 4005 just went up!

SOLD for $15,900.00!

Is this the new high water mark?

Wow! It's in decent shape, but definitely not perfect.

Makes me wish I had 3 or 4 of 'em - I could sell them and pay some of my bills...

Let's see if Olivia's actually collects on it. The buyer has a feedback rating of 1.

That's a great sign for the folks who have nice examples of those basses!

(For my situation...I am lucky that my craving for Ric basses is limited to the budget-priced 4001/4003 series. )

It is beginning to appear that there is a fever going around us Rickenbacker junkies. I guess what bugs me is that I did not buy one of these gems when they were priced on the planet ... you know 2 years ago ... hell even a year ago. However, I think we will see prices drop in light of the global economic crisis. There are deals out there if you get lucky. I just scored a mint (as much as I hate to use the word mint) 4003 S/8 for a great price. All I can say to you peeps that own the 4005's —I'm happy for you. If I was your financial advisor I would have to say "sell"!! But I know I can't seem to part with any of my Rics.

Peace,
M.

WOW! I'm thinkin' this is a little high.

:|

I'm gonna go play mine now!

Hmmmm...prices like these could get some 4005's to come out of the wood work.

Mine, maybe? Hmmmm.....

I'm thinking whoever bought it is the type of guy that lights his hand-rolled Havanas with Ben Franklins...or a non-paying bidder.

Well that firmly puts me out of range..there's a nail in a coffin :( I may have to modify my 73' 4001 with creating an outer skeleton to mimic the 4005. Anyone want to trade me before I get goin on it....I'll throw in a 78 Fender Jazz too! :P

Keep in mind that this was one of the bound 4005s (like Jeff's) and should garner a higher price based on its vintage and rarity. I think standard 4005s should be available in the $5-8K range depending on age and condition.

Don't do it Jeff, you know you'll regret it....

Although I bet the money from your 4005 could buy a few more 87 4003s :D

I agree, this is just a one shot deal, but who knows............the 4001CS that Matt Malley bought a few years ago started a whole new high range for those basses for quite some time.

It might be a one shot deal. We'll see if the winner pays up. I've never before seen so many ebay ads that were relisted and the seller claims that it's more than one time that a winning bidder did not pay.

Now is a good time to buy instruments that are selling for lower than they previously had been, if you can. I have the feeling that when the economy recovers, you ain't seen nothing yet with the prices!

Also keep in mind a nicer 67 bound 4005 sold a few weeks ago for only $6500.

I'm guessing Olivia's will be relisted due to a non-paying bidder.
