Wmthor.....Naaahhh, you're residing in the right continent. I was born and raised as a military/DoD brat in Japan. The cost of goods and services IS expensive over there. I mean, you can live off the local economy if you live, eat, and sleep with a Japanese mindset but if you can't, well then life can be a bit challenging. Just my dos centavos' worth.
