So on the way to practice with the metal band last night I picked up one of these and got a killer deal from my favorite local shop. (If you haven't seen the J Dog thread under the "metal" section, check it out.) I used it with the 4002 and it worked great. I didn't have time to mess with any settings, so I just used it straight up; I didn't even mess with the EQ settings.

Is anyone familiar with this brand or amp? Thoughts? Thanks, J

PS I traded a recent Gibson Les Paul Studio Mahogany even steven, so I think I got a decent deal. Thoughts on that too are welcomed. I'm just not an amp guy and know nothing about this stuff.

Congrats Jdog. I don't know anything about SWR amps, but it looks like it's a good size in terms of both power and portability. Should be able to keep up with a loud guitar and drummer, especially if you ever get an extension cab.

Nice amp, if a bit heavy! Did you find enough bottom end from it? I used to have a SWR Super Redhead (too bad it wasn't a woman) and it lacked enough lows by itself without an extension cabinet.

Nice amp jdog Even though I no longer use SWR stuff, past experiences have been favorable. On thing is for sure....smaller is better.IMO I know what you mean about using it straight up. I think that today's amps have too many features. If I could find an amp with just a volume and tone control, I would probably try it. Parametric EQ's, mid sweep's, bass this and treble that...man, who can even remember Your SWR would probably look and sound even better stacked on a 115 cab! See ya at the pound.......dog

Jdog, as long as the amp sounds great to you and gets the job done, that's all that matters. I would agree that if your metal band is loud, you might want to stack that amp on top of a 1x15", a 2x12" or 4x10".

SWR has been my main rig for the past 18 years. It sounds great and has been reliable. Mine is from when Steve Rabe, the founder of SWR still owned the company. F*nd*r bought up SWR a few years ago.

Thanks guys. Yes, it could use a little more bottom end. I don't think I can fit a cab in the Prius too, though, unless I jettison the basses themselves. There is a line out feature, so that oughta do me.

I was looking at the specs on this amp, you wanted something that wouldn't break your back, right? 85 lbs.!!! My SRH was 80 lbs. and I got tired of that real fast. Then again, you are just a wee Jpup.

Didn't have many choices, or much budget. I was able to get this on even trade for a non-Rick guitar I bought and never played, so it was a decent score. Plus, anything lighter or more convenient wouldn't have been loud enough, I'm afraid. Groan, amps.

Not true! Some of those Markbass combo amps would be louder and weight less than half that of the WP210C.

My SWR Goliath II 4 x 10 was 90 lbs. It didn't bother me to carry it when I first got it, but a few years ago, I decided that as much as I loved it's sound, I didn't want to deal with it's weight anymore at the end of a gig night.

Thank bassdom for the modern lightweight gear that is being made these days. I found my first Walter Woods amp in the early '80s and bowed down to ..... someone, I guess WW, for making these great featherweight amps. Now you can get lightweight speakers, too, that sound great. My recently acquired Dr. Bass 2460 Neo cabinet is a 2-12, 6 1/2" mid, and horn tweeter, cabinet that weights only 52 lbs. and can handle 700 watts rms. That combined with my 6.39 lb. Markbass LM II is a godsend for us, you know, more experienced, chaps!

Right on Jeff! I've reverted to a mere 100 watt GK Microbass and taking a line to FOS. My other amps (SWR Redhead & AC50) have become furniture in my home office/studio/dog playroom.

JDog - great amp - SWR stuff is solid, and you should be able to coax a little more bottom with the eq. You will definitely find the wheels handy...

They are light, small and sound pretty good IMHO...I admit I'm no bass player. Congrats JDog, your back will be in good...or maybe bad shape pretty quickly.

Joey, wasn't someone at the 08 So Cal Confluence using one of those little Markbass heads? However, I don't remember what cabinet it was being run through.
