Advice on reshaping neck needed

Hi,

I have a 4001c64 of which I am not happy with neck width. It is my best sounding bass though. Can a good luthier reshape the neck (to the profile my '73 has)? Will this posibly harm the stability of the neck? Will this operation give another sound?

You might want to start with taking the wings off.

I thought about it. I will need another TRC also in this scenario.

Are you referring to the plan view of the cross-sectional profile?

If plan view (as Jeff seems to understand your inquiry), then the wing thing might be a start. If your inquiry refers to the so-called "thinness" in profile of the neck, the wing thing is wholly unnecessary.

I've reshaped many necks. It takes careful work and lots of cross-checking, but the most difficult part for a non-RIC pro is refinishing the neck afterwards...

Im refererring to width mainly. From E to G. And besides that maybe a little less thickness. Wings are another subject (on which I have read answers several times). I know of a luthier here in Holland who can use two component lacquer and what he does looks very good. But I am still not sure wheather Conversion varnish is just a two component lacquer or that is something else. Most topics on this matter are too technical for a simpe Dutch speaking person.
