Those in the know will already have their votes ready. But if you're not sure which of your favorite groups is from Merseyside, look over this list of Liverpool artists I gathered from Wikipedia. It may surprise you. Of course you can always vote for someone who's not on the list, as it is by no means exhaustive. Thanks for playing!

A

Anathema: formerly Death/Doom Metal.
Atomic Kitten: Girl band, formed in 1999 by OMD's Andy McCluskey.
Apollo 440: Modern day dance act who have had hits with "Ain't talkin 'bout dub" and "Stop the rock".
Amsterdam: Led by singer/songwriter Ian Prowse. Elvis Costello, John Peel and Christy Moore favourites.Wrote the classic 'Does this train stop on Merseyside? Have two albums out The Journey (2005) and Arm in Arm (2008)
Alexis Blue: 2000s indie pop group. Released singles including 'You Wont Get Much Sleep'. Released debut album 'Hypothetical Situations' in November 2008.

B

The Bandits: 2000s band top 40 hits with "Two Step Rock" and "Take It and Run". Leading lights in what came to be know as 'cosmic scouse'. Ran the Bandwagon Club which saw early gigs for the Coral and The Zutons.
Benny Profane: Indie-pop band (1985-90). They released two albums, various singles and EPs, and recorded 3 John Peel sessions.
Big in Japan: Budgie, Ian Broudie, Bill Drummond, David Balfe, Jayne Casey, Holly Johnson.
Billy Fury: 1960s rock musician. One of the most successful British singers of the 60s.
Billy J. Kramer: 1960s singer.
Cilla Black: Cavern cloakroom attendant turned borderline National treasure, via a successful music career.
Black: 80s band best known for their worldwide hit "Wonderful Life".
The Boo Radleys: English Brit-pop (indie-rock) group during 1980s and 1990s.
The Black Velvets: Classic Rock band.
Badfinger: who wrote the Nilsson classic "Without You".
BB Mak: A multi million selling boyband in the 1990s.

Carcass: 1990s death metal band
Cast: 1990s pop group
The Chants:The first and finest black vocal band to emerge during the sixty's Merseybeat era, opened the doors that paved the way for later bands such as The Real Thing
China Crisis: 1980s electro-pop band
Clinic: 2000s indie-rock band
The Coral: 2000s indie group inspired by 60s psychedelia. From Hoylake.
Melanie Chisholm: singer
The Christians: a soul-influenced Sophisti-pop band, who scored several UK and international chart hits in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
The Crescent: 2000s indie band influenced by the La's
Crucial Three: Ian McCulloch, Julian Cope and Pete Wylie.
The Cryin' Shames: a mid-1960s pop group

Dead or Alive: New Wave pop band of the 1980s, most famous for the ever-popular "You spin me round".
The Dead 60s: Current punk/ska/reggae band.

The Fourmost: '60s Merseybeat band. Top 10 hits include 'Hello Little Girl' and 'A Little Loving'.
Frankie Goes to Hollywood: 1980s 'alternative' pop band who had No. 1 hits with their first three singles: 'Relax', 'Two Tribes' and 'The Power of Love'.

Gomez: Mercury Prize winners from Southport.
George Melly: Jazz musician, writer and expert on surrealist art.

Half Man Half Biscuit: 1980s pop band. From Birkenhead.
Hot Club de Paris: Indie band.
The Hideaways, 1960s Merseybeat band in which Ozzie Yue began his career.
Michael Holliday: Crooner popular in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Icicle Works: 80s power pop stalwarts, led by Ian McNabb. Reformed in 2006 for a 25th anniversary tour.

The La's: late 1980s to early 1990s pop group.
Lightning Seeds: Pop band, whose Ian Broudie wrote the Three Lions music for Euro96.
The Little Flames: 60s-inspired indie band.
Ladytron
[Lloyd Collection]: band of 1985 formed by Mike Lloyd (keys) (ex Neuklon), Mark Birchall (drms) (ex Rafique, later La's), Donna Lowe (voc) (ex Neuklon), Colin McCann (ex Neuklon), Tony Brown, Steve Walsh. Rel 7" Maggie's Farm (Mayday Jan86) as a benefit for L’pool Council Support Fund & sleeve was designed by Sex Pistols’ artist Jamie Ried. In late '85 they played as a duo with just Lloyd & Birchall.

Candie Payne: 1960s influenced, sister of Howie, Lead singer with The Stands and Sean who's the drummer with The Zutons.
The Pale Fountains: Bacharach and Love-influenced early 80s pop group, led by Mick Head. Later metamorphosed into Shack
Peter Beckett: Lead singer with American band Player who's biggest hit was "Baby Come Back" which is a worldwide hit to this day.
Pele: Ian Prowse lead 90s Celtic pop outfit. Released 3 albums on Polydor/M&G and had number 1 hit "Megalomania in South Africa". Ian now leads Amsterdam.

The Rascals: 2000s indie group consisting of Miles Kane who collaborated with Arctic Monkeys leading man, Alex Turner to create: 'The Last Shadow Puppets'
The Real People: Proto-Britpop band from the early 90s.
The Real Thing: Band who sung the 1970s classic "You To Me Were Everything".
Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Scaffold. 60s group featuring Mike McGear, Roger McGough and John Gorman. Had a Number 1 with "Lily the Pink", and other hits with "Thank You Very Much", "Do You Remember?", and "Gin Gan Goolie" in the 60's and "Liverpool Lou" in the 70s.
The Searchers: 60s Merseybeat group. No. 1 Hits include "Sweets For My Sweet", "Needles And Pins" and "Don't Throw Your Love Away".
Shack: Cult band led by Mick Head, formerly of The Pale Fountains. Highly influential on Britpop bands such as Oasis. Noel Gallagher repaid the debt by signing them to his record label.
Space: 1990s indie-rock band best known for "Female of the Species" and their 6 other Top 20 hit singles.
The Stands: 2000s rock'n'roll band led by songwriter Howie Payne. Split in 2006.
Rory Storm and the Hurricanes: Merseybeat group.
Supercharge: 1970s funk/rock band, led by Albie Donnelly and featuring Ozzie Yue
The Swinging Blue Jeans: 60s Merseybeat group. Top 3 Hits include "Hippy Hippy Shake" and "You're No Good".

The Teardrop Explodes: Julian Cope led an ever changing line-up mixing pop, new wave and psychedelia with surprising commercial success. Split in 1982 after a mere two albums.
T. Rex Makin, tribute band for one of Liverpool's most famous solicitors.

Undertakers: '60s Merseybeat group.

Venus Beat Mushrooms – Liverpool band name used by Neuklon for most of 1982.

Wah!: Pete Wylie vehicle, variously known as Wah! Heat and The Mighty Wah!
The Wild Swans: Post-punk band.
Kathryn Williams: Singer-songwriter. Her second album, Little Black Numbers (2000), was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize.
The Wombats: Pop punk/Powerpop 3 piece consisting of Matthew Murphy, Tord Overland Knudsen and Daniel Haggis from the famed Paul McCartney LIPA academy

Echo & the Bunnymen: 1980s post-punk band, most credited for their cult hit "The Killing Moon" It might be sacrilege, but for me personally, they're probably tied for first; I have four Bunnymen posters, but no Beatles posters.

Why are The Beatles even listed.................they are tops of course.

Badfinger is my second favourite group from Liverpool......... :D

Honourable mention to The Searchers and Gerry and The Pacemakers. The Big Three were great too btw.

I agree Kira. There's a bit of history here that I should tell you about. Scotty aka the wee numpty joined the forum a short while ago it seems. He now has 2502 posts to his credit. It was not too long after he joined before he was taking the mickey out of me. It was less than ten posts in. We have been playing tennis ever since. :lol:
