Best idea ever!

The 370/12 I'd gotten last month has very high action and, being a novice at neck adjustments, I decided to take the guitar to Chris at POTR.

Chris got the action as low as he could with the stock strings but recommended the TIs as a solution to further lower it.

I'd considered stringing the guitar with these anyway (from the comments on this board) so it was an easy sell.

The 370 is an entirely different monster now! Aside from having the lowest action I've ever played on a 12, the strings have taken the guitar from great to AMAZING status tone wise.

To top it all off, I played the thing numerous times for a combined total of almost 3 hours without touching the tuners ONCE.

I put a set on my 360/12 about two months ago.

I can't disagree with any of Justin's comments. It certainly is much more playable now.

During the last two years I used Rickenbacker strings on my 360/12. In december I ordered three sets of Thomastik Infeld at Pick of the Ricks. After restringing my guitar I can say the following:
I was able to lower the action although before doing that I thought that I already had the lowest possible action. The strings feel more comfortable because they seem to be more flexible. After playing them at least two hours a day they show no wear at all. The sound didn't change, they still sound like new. All I have to do is clean them every two or three days. And most important: They sound fantastic, great attack concerning the bass strings, sparkling and shining concerning the trebles.

Anyone try a set of 10's on a 330/6?

Would it be to drastic of a switch tone-wise (I currently use RIC strings)?

I don't want to lose any punch or attack.

The TI 12s are great as far as I'm concerned, for all the reasons already given. I just slapped a set of 11s on my 330, I made them up before buying an expensive set and got the string gauges from a TI set I was looking to buy. I just did this, but I think it really gave the guitar a more fluid sound, like the Jams "Art School". I see no loss of punch or attack, rather quite the opposite.It seems more sound comes out in a complimentary way, unlike other guitars I've tried a heavier set on. There also isn't a big difference in the tension, it just feels a little more substantial to me. Anyways, that's my experience.

My 1997 reissue sports TI 10s for 6-strings...it makes a great guitar even better!

TI 12 set - Still awesome (they've done 3 shows, a radio taping, a studio recording session and at least as many practices)

TI Jazz Flats 6 string - Not for me at ALL... Had to switch back to the Rick strings before recording. (plus I had to bend REALLY far on the G.. which makes no sense as it was a thicker gauge!)

I was having some tuning and buzzing problems on a new 350V63 that I acquired last year:

Problem solved with TI 11's, and it has the the vintage Beatle/Lennon sound - think "I FEEL FINE".

I'm another happy camper after installing the 12-string Thomastik set on my 360/12 V64. Not only does it sound better, but the intonation improved a bit, especially on the low E (12th) string. I'll probably put a set on my 370/12 RM when the RIC strings need replacing.

This is a very interesting thread. I've been toying with the idea of putting these on my 360/12AFG but felt it was a little pricey for just experimenting. Do you guys feel they still retain a reasonable degree of brightness on the bass strings?

The tone improved with the strings for sure as did string life. Even my girlfriend (who cares little for anything technical involving guitars and rarely notices many of the subtle differences I usually point out) noticed the change and agreed it sounded much better.

The bass strings (without the octaves) are definitely a little "plunkier" but when played with the octave strings (aka stummed) still retain brightness.. and result in a more well-rounded tone IMO.

Thanks Justin! Thats just the information I was looking for. I'm definitely getting a set next time I change them.

Dumb question perhaps, but who carries the TI 12-string sets? I've searched several times without finding them anywhere. 6-string yes, but no 12-strings.
