I wonder how much routing was done to the poor thing?

I beleive those harmony pickups are flat-backed, and you can see the pickup wires running on top of the guitar and underneath the guard, which of course is perched on its rubber grommets. So, there are four badly-located driled holes in the top (why didn't he use foam tape on these?) to fill, plus the tuner holes, which a set of Klusons might cover.

There is a "special" place in guitar hell for people that do things like this.

Are the original pickups(toasters) that Rickenbacker puts on the 325c58's different than the 7.5 scats that are on all the other Rickenbackers?I thought I had read that the pickups on the those guitars were wound to 50s specs.I asked the seller if he still had the original pickups and he told me that he does not.

Of course.....it's absolutely sacrilege to modify your guitar.......cos a certain John Lennon never extensively modified any 325, far and beyond the modifications of this one........

......oh yeah, that's right- he did! But it's "OK" because everyone reveres him?

It's a modded guitar- pick up a deal and get over it!

On the flipside- every one of you that owns an unmodded 325c58 just raised the value on theirs ever so slightly.....

+1, sort of. I feel this way every time I see someone screw a Bigsby to the top of a 325. I realize that when a guitar belongs to you, you can do whatever you want with it. I get it. I still hate to see guitars messed with, even in the name of hero worship. Now.....can anyone tell me which model Kahler trem will best fit my '59 360F? I like to have a panic button on my guitar.

OK....I don't get it, the whole modifying a guitar thing. If I don't like the attributes of Guitar Y, why would I buy it and then modify it so it has attributes of Guitar Z which I like better? Wouldn't it be easier to go out and just buy Guitar Z?

But what do I know? I've just been a folkie all my life. And the only reason that I don't go out and build an electric to my personal specs is because RIC is already doing that out in Santa Ana, CA

I think it's because often there is no "guitar z." There is always more to a guitar than scale. Neck width, scale, feel etc....say this guy might have wanted the sound of those pickups, but the feel/playability of a 325. Who knows? Essentially it's just a pickup replacement- people have been replacing pickups in fender/gibson for ages....when somebody does it on a Ric, everyone gets somehow offended? It don't make sense!

I'm in no way advocating the extensive modification of your Rickenbacker (or any other) guitar, but if you do.....you should have the right to do so without being publicly criticized. I doubt his reserve is somehow higher than a stock 325c58, so consider it buying a "project" and it's all good...

now.....destroying a guitar (literally beyond recognition or use) isn't so cool.....but then again- to each their own.

While I agree with you in principle, Collin, no one has a right to do anything without being publicly criticized....it's just part of the fun that comes along with bein' a human bein'....
