REM and Roger McGuinn

There are some strange and wonderful things on the Internets. Exhibit A: this clip from an MTV special on folk rock broadcast in the early '80s, featuring Roger McGuinn doing "Rock and Roll Star" with REM as his band. The quality of the vid (especially the sound) is poor, but it's still worth a look.

Cool! I'm assuming Roger's early 80's 360/12 Walnut is borrowed.

Borrowed? Ah, but maybe not. I heard an interviewer ask him how many Ricks he owns. And his reply was that he wasn't "allowed" to say. Interesting......
On the other hand, that comment may have been in reference strictly to the number of his limited edition signature models he owns.

I watched that clip when it was first aired...glued to the TV, just out of HS for a couple of years, so etched in my memory. Just awed how I witnessed the great passing of the torch here. REM is clearly so juiced to have Roger on stage with them. I think there are some Wilco clips with Roger playing Mr Spaceman and 8 MH somewhere as well.
Just love when this happens! especially with Rickenbackers!

We'll never know how many Rics he owns. More than likely, aside from (probably) numerous signature models, he has a bunch of custom-made models, a 1993/12 (I always thought McGuinn would look cool with one of these) and more artist limited edition models (perhaps Lennon, Petty and Wilson 12-strings)?
