(Not For Sale) Fender Rhodes
I can't believe it took me so long to finally get one of these. Picked up this suitcase in a section of Tampa who's ghetto-ness is second only to the actual projects. We're talking crack addicts in the street - literally. It needs a little tweaking electronically... it goes in and out due to a bad connection somewhere, but other than that it's a late 70's with vibrato and effects send and the suitcase amp and everything, and it's been well cared for in a hip hop/electronica studio. I know JB has one of these... anyone else?

The keyboardist in the Lemon Antennas has a 73.
Another guy I use to do music with has an 88.

I took some pics, but they're still on my camera at home. I'll try to post them tonight. The price was killer too... $800 cash. I'll bet the guy had a great weekend!!! Seriously, he was really cool and I hope we can work together on something.

YES! Welcome to the club, dude! Fun little toy, inn'it?
Run it through a guitar amp for maximum awesomeness.

I don't know, I can't imagine anything sounding funkier than that suitcase amp. I love the effects loop. I have a Boss CE-2 Chorus, BF-2 Flanger, Small Stone Phaser, Line 6 FM4 Filter Modeler, and Boss Rotary Speaker Emulator running through it. The CE2 and Rotary (not used simultaneously) are the most effective effects to effect it with IMHFO.

Oh, duh, forgot you had the suitcase model for a minute. I bet there are some cool sounds sitting in the Filter Modeler - envelope filters and such, for some really funky 70's sounds. And of course, there's the phase-shifter:jdogric12aolcom wrote:I don't know, I can't imagine anything sounding funkier than that suitcase amp. I love the effects loop. I've got a 1975 88 key Mark 1 Suitcase Rhodes myself. It needs some adjustment as a couple keys don't sound right, but I love it! The suitcase amp is known to be dark sounding...there are guys putting tweeters in them and things like that, but a lot of people end up using a Fender Twin Reverb with it or go straight into the PA. Theres a guy in Washington thats supposed to be the expert for these but I haven't looked into it. Nice find!

Nice score, J Dog. I just love the sound of a Fender Rhodes - I'll eventually bite the bullet and buy one myself.
Thanks for the Billy Joel video, JB. It's way cheesy, but cool at the same time!

Thanks everybody! Do it, Darren, do it. You'll love it. I can't see the video... what is it? Just the Way You Are? I've been playing that song on it, as well as My Life.
Re: (Not For Sale) Fender Rhodes
Man, talk about regrets. After I graduated from college, I sold my Rhodes 88 for whatever goofball reason. Cool score, Dawg --- props to you. Harold Rhodes looms large in my cranium. Peace, out.......Goofyfoot.

Play on, pick often, jam with any Rickenbacker, and prosper.

I've got a Mk1 Stage Seventy Three in storage at my folks house.
I have no idea how to play piano though yet...

Dark, but here's a shot of me (in the foreground) sitting at my 1979 Stage 73 Rhodes, from a gig this past weekend:
I'm playing banjo at the moment, but I switch to the Rhodes halfway through, and then back. Whew!
