An Interesting Experience Today

The day started off rather badly, several students having cancelled their lessons. So since I had a bit of time on my hands, I sauntered over to the nearby guitar shop to drool over the good stuff. Got to talking guitars with the owner, when I mentioned that I was interested in Rickenbackers.

"Which one?" he asks.
"A 360 12 string," I said.
"Oh yeah, what color?"
I said "Fireglo, it's their red sunburst."
He said "Like that one right there."
I turned around and nearly kicked over a 360 6 string with a flawless fireglo finish.

"Mind if I play it?" I asked.
"No, go right ahead," he replied.

So I did. I played a few rockabilly licks on it, and a little Chet Atkins style finger picking. And then I played a twelve bar blues progression on it. (When I bend strings, I usually bend the B string. I got whole step bends.) It felt good. I'm not sure how old it was, the serial number started with M1. It broke my heart that I couldn't come up with the $1900.00 the shop wanted for it. (I might have been able to bargain for it had I been serious and had the cash.)

It was a lovely guitar. Kinda reminds me of meeting your girlfriend's sister....ooooh what a beauty. OK, so if I get a bad attack of GAS, yup, it's gonna be another 360.

"If..." he says! Ha! what a laugh. We all know better, right?

That's a great story - a teaser of what's to come (soon!). If it was a used one, it probably didn't have the FWI's and the new FG shading, so best to wait. If you're gonna have twins, let them be IDENTICAL!

And the price for a brand new 360 probably wouldn't be much more than this one.

Oh yeah Bob, without a doubt the new fireglo is a whole lot nicer than the one I saw locally. I wouldn't exactly call it a pinkglo...but it sure didn't have the golden/yellow/warm tones the '08-'09 guitars do. And yes, it did not possess the full-width inlays, either. But all that cosmetic stuff aside...WOW! what a geetar  I understand now why everyone on the forum is so nutso about Ricks.

I have a question, JimK. Based on your 1500+ posts you surely have been here a while, but in that time you have NEVER played a Rickenbacker guitar? Are you primarily a bass player or something? Or just more a fan of the 600 guitar series?
