Hey everyone,

I just wanted to give you a heads up that I was caught in a layoff on Thursday and lost my job as a network admin/desktop support specialist at Rodgers Instruments LLC. Rodgers is a subsidiary of the Roland corporation and makes church organs, theater organs, and some digital pianos for Roland in Hillsboro, Oregon. I had been there for 3 years and worked there in the mid 90's too in shipping before leaving and then coming back again in the IS/IT job. My mom worked there for 20 years in marketing and she was laid off too. So now I'm out of work in addition to my mother, my sister, a brother, an uncle, and two aunts. Pretty lousy economy I'd say!

So I may be slow in answering any posts here for a bit that ask for my amp expertise as I need to find a job...I've got a mortgage and credit card bills (mostly from my RIC and other guitar purchases) to pay. If anyone knows of any network IS/IT type jobs in the Portland, Oregon area, or any computer repairs, mods, or builds, please let me know....I can use the work and am good at it, even though I find it boring...haha. I do charge reasonable rates for computer work too.

If Rickenbacker was in this area, I'd love to work for them as I have built guitars in the past and I've always loved their instruments...but alas, they aren't. With the lousy economy not many people can afford amp repairs either, but if anyone needs an amp fixed in this area, I charge reasonable rates for that too. Anyone who has info for me about jobs or work can contact me via PM and we can communicate through there or email.

I have an old Voice of Music VM 160 that needs a resurrection. It turns on and heats up (too much) but no sound comes out. I think this is going to be a corker when I get it running. If this is something you're interested in doing I can ship it up from the Bay Area easily. This job would be in my budget within a few weeks, hopefully. I'll chat with you when I'm ready to ship.

I am truly sorry to hear about your situation. A few others on the board (Kris being one that springs to mind) also found themselves in similar situations. May you (all) find something to replace that which you lost.

So sorry Greg!
There is going to be a lot of this Job loss stuff happening for a while, it has even started in Australia (to a smaller degree).
I was so lucky when I walked out of school and into a very secure job at a powerstation, (I guess everybody needs electricity for the moment anyway) and 20 something years later I'm still working at one (I've worked at a few now)
My job has changed over the years and I've kind of just "gone with the flow" as far as career path goes.
I'm sure I would die in the public sector, and I really admire folks who can make a go of it out there in the real world (not the closed insitution of a government powerstation)
I "work to live" not "live to work" and I'm not career minded. Job security is very important to me, and I would choose a lower paying job that at least seemed to be safe over a high flying "volatile market" sort of thing.
Without doubt I would rather clean out pigstys than try to "pressure sell" holidays to folks on the phone... But that is just me!
Greg you are a highly skilled chap! I don't think it will take you long to find a new job that fits like a glove! I just hope that you don't have to move around to find it.... (Moving house is another one of my pet hates!)

Sorry to hear about your work situation Greg, I hope things improve for you. I personally understand the stress and angst of having the rug pulled out from under you. Hopefully, something good will come your way, and you can get some peace.

I had to move from Los Angeles to Iowa to help out my family, and had worked here at factories that closed. Many factories, offices and businesses are closing here, and our community is really in a state of shock. I have been driving a semi truck now as there is not music related work to be found here, and I never have to worry about a job. The hours aren't the greatest, but at least in this sham of an economy we have, I know I have a job.
