Check out the web site
www.12stringbass.net and scroll down, check out the Shamray 12 string bass ala Rickenbacker!
Looks cool, they are in Russia, don't know if Rickenbacker can do anything about those, or if anyone here can get one!

That's odd, Shamray says right on their website "we won't copy Rickenbacker designs, don't even ask"

You don't ask, they don't tell.

Rickenbacker designs should not be copied!
The sad thing is I still want one............
This could perhaps encourage at RIC to start toying with the idea of a 12 string Rickenbacker bass. Which I'm sure they would do a production run just as soon as hell freezes over.
That rather nice vintagie green 12 string monster will without probably cause a locked thread!
I still want one!
Eden.

i didn't see a 12 string rick copy.....but the "first act" 12 string looked pretty awesome, sorta of jaguar melds into nonreverse tbird with 3 pickups no less.....that's the one at the top of the page.

I kind of liked that 15 stringer, especially if it was a different color.

Now is there any chance that this is a 4003S that has been modified with a new headstock ?
I know they imply that it is custom built, but modding could be the easier route.

I think it's been adapted. The bridge and pickups look like Rick originals. I think they used a Rick bass for the wings and hardware, and built the neck themselves. The neck heel looks very thick and square, and I think the neck must be a bit wider, too...

I do! Not a copy, of course.

I don't know about anybody else, but I listened to all their clips and was totally under-whelmed. The thing certainly has some novelty value, but across the board on the clips with a band, all I could hear them contributing to the mix was mud. I'd take an eight-string over them any day. It gives the boost to the sound without clogging-up the mix.

I find the idea of this
almost sexually attractive!!
One for John Hall and the boys to add to the catalog in the future?
A 12 string bass can sound immense and not at all muddy.
I have two of the things - both Hamers.
However, I wish Shamray had come up with another of their own design, and
not just gone for the classic Ric appearance. Daft looking headstock and the
TRC is just plain daft, too.
There are millions of new shapes to dream up, like their 'Sledgehammer' 15 string
bass - see the bottom of the page at
http://www.12stringbass.net/Shamray.htm .
Impressive.

I doubt it. If there was a market for this sort of thing, they'd still be producing the 4003S8.
I've played the 4003S8. It's a lot of fun and very tempting. The problem is that I would have only used it really on one song on the UK tour for which it would have been perfectly suited. The rest of the time I would have just been tempted to use it in places that it would have been overpowering just to justify having it. I can get away with just usimng an octaver for the very few times I might need that approach. I can't ever imagine needing a 12 string for my style of playing.
Doesn't mean to say that I'm not tempted to get one every time I see one come up for sale though
