Here's #2 of 14 for FAWM (February is Album Writing Month)

Here's To You

I've been working on this plan
To become a better man
'Cause I'm tired of causing anger, pain and tears
But as far as I can tell
Things ain't going very well
I've been working on this plan for 40 years

So here's to you
Because I'm sick of me
And all the golden dreams that never come to be
And those foreign lands I'll never see
And the things I'll never do
So here's to you
Here's to you

Well, I don't mean to bring you down
And you don't need to hear some clown
With a bunch of bad advice on your career
So forgive my sorry ***
For raising up this glass
Then I'll go back to cryin' in my beer

So here's to you
Because I'm sick of me
And all the golden dreams that never come to be
And those foreign lands I'll never see
And the things I'll never do
So here's to you
Here's to you

These drinks make me forgetful, so I'm hopin' you won't mind
If I raise my glass and toast you one more time

Yeah, here's to you
Because I'm sick of me
And all the golden dreams that never come to be
And those foreign lands I'll never see
And the things I'll never do
So here's to you
Here's to you

Nice one, Mark! Puts me in the mind of the early Beatles, odd as that may seem. Great vocals - nothing pitchy here!

My favorite line - "No not that one, the other one."

God speed with your FAWM project, Mr. Kaufman.

By the way, I notice that both of our most recent offerings feature the word "***." Just goes to show you that great minds think alike!

*** kinda funny, Walkah!

Yeah it has that Beatles-do-Buck-Owens vibe, doesn't it? Thanks!

I normally hate C&W but I love the song. Great work Mark!!!! I'll be chuckling about that for days...

Great job Mark! - this should be the single from the album... at least the B side...I will be saving the 'toast' for some correct moment in the future!

So far, I think this is my fave. Some hear the Beatles do Buck Owens. I think I hear something of Gram Parsons in a lighter vein. Good stuff.

Thanks for all the comments! Sorry I'm often a late responder. Jim K, you're right, when I do anything remotely country, I have a built-in Gram Parsons filter. Come to think of it, now that you mention him, the chorus sounds uncomfortably close to "The New Soft Shoe"... :?
