The Eggmen are adding this song and I'm not real sure if the bass on the recording is Ric 4001S or Fender Jazz. I wanna use the correct bass for the show so let me know what y'all think.
Thanks,
Ronn/Nigel

Ronn, my bet is that it's the Jazz Bass, either George's OR Paul's.....Who played on the track would be the question...

It would probably be Paulie on that one. The harpsichord part was played by Chris Thomas IIRC, so Paul would have little to do except play the bass.
I dunno. Could be 4001s, mutes, horseshoe.

During "White Album" (or any other time, really), does anyone think Paul could have experimented with a tube compressor with the 4001S?

I believe his Rick was always run through tube compressors.

Actually the Fender Jazz and the VI were both used on the song according to engineer Ken Townsend. The two doubled the bass lines exactly. This combination was also used on Glass Onion and While My Guitar...

It definitely sounds like a Jazz bass. It doesn't sound like its doubled either.

You must be right, the Beatles engineer must be wrong.

Definitely sounds like the Jazz bass, and the thick attack on it sounds like it was probably doubled as mentioned above.

I tend to take it with a grain of salt. I've read different things from some of the different engineers about what was used and its not always correct. Remembering details from 40 years ago isn't always easy.
Anyway, I said it "sounded" like it wasn't doubled. I didn't say he was wrong, that is just my opinion. That is what the OP asked for anyway.

Thanks everyone for your input, I'm going with the Jazz. "Piggies" makes its debut in the set on the 20th, a warm-up show for the big orchestra show the next night.
Thanks again.
