you know, the biggest question that has always been on my mind is, " how many JG 4001s does he have?" the first one is a 74 (read that in a bio) then we see what look like mid 70's 4001s with bada$$ bridge and 1" pickup spacing....is this the same bass? I think it is the only one i have ever seen past the 74.....
any of you guys have some ideas????

Great Question Jaymi, If you look closley at the photos the older ric seems to have a 1/2" spacing on the neck Pup and the 2008 photo it looks like a 1" spacing he may have more than 1 Ric. can anyone confirm this?

You know, after all this time I don't think I've ever seen a definitive account of Geddy's Rickenbackers (years, mods, etc..).

Doesn't anyone here have the inside connection for this?

Actually, yes, we do have an inside connection; I will see what we can find out.

IIRC, the bass in the S&A tour was his '78. His bass tech posted some on TB about it. His white 4001 wound up in Les Claypool's hands.
That's all I got.

The white 4001 belonged to Alex...
If I remember correctly the bass pictured on the inside cover of "All the world's a stage" album shows a bass with a 1/2" spaced toaster.....
Anyone got a pic of that?
I would suspect that he has had 3 or 4 4001 basses over the years.

it is not a toaster but it is the same 74 that is pictured above...according to the story, that is the first one he bought...

I read through that link....it is interesting...Alex gave him the white one...the black one (the first) was the 74...wonder what that one is doing now....probably sitting in a case or on a wall somewhere...
