Etta has always had my vote................she was cool even before the term was coined and she sings with so much passion and power.

No knocks on Beyonce...obviously a ton of talent. But if we're talking about this song, it's hands down Etta James. Her voice and phrasing make the lyrics so incredibly believable.

I don't actually hear much resemblance in their voices, as nice as the tribute sounds. I have to prefer Etta, as she is truly one-of-a-kind.

+1 Beyonce's redition's pretty close in terms of quality, but the nudge goes to Etta, for the reasons John's stated. Touching statement and embrace at the end of the Beoyonce video.

I don't like either. But the first one sounds better to my ear.

The expressiveness and articulation of Eta James goes right to the heart-strings. An amazing number. Her honest performance wins the day and she gets my vote.
