So I cant leave well enough alone. I just rewired my 4004 with Joeys bass notes Concentric Wiring Diagram with pickup selector switch. Everything works except the middle-both pickups position. Just buzz with no sound. What did I do wrong ?

Rick, are you sure one end of the tone caps and the pup center conductors go to the top lugs of the switch and the wires to the volume pots go to the bottom lugs of the switch? Is it something as simple as the switch being crowded and the leaves not being able to move properly?

The switch is a sealed C&K type so no exposed leaves to get tangled in any wires.

The tone caps only go to the pot lugs...upper center and lower right-lower right to ground.

Wasn't sure if he changed to the open leaf type.

You're still wiring it like a 4003, but with the sealed switch, the pup/tone .047uF cap leads go to opposite corners of the 6 lugs, and the wires to the volume pots go to the center lugs. I cannot find Joey's concentric diagram.

There is no room in the cavity for a leaf switch, it is real tight in there.

Takes a bigger hole but:

Im done with the concentrics. Going to do the stock setup but with the coil mod.

So what was the purpose of this thread if you are not interested in working towards a solution Rick?

I am left wondering why didn't you simply PM Joey and ask him how to make the change in the first place?
Just curious.

Hi Brian. I was stumped since I thought I had wired it by the book. Then I saw the single coil mod with the standard configuration and that is much more attractive to me . I've had this bass with standard set up, concentrics, volume volume and now back to standard. As far as concentrics go this thread is done for me.

let us know what you think of the new mod, rick. i am most interested,as i was planning on rewiring my cii V.V.T, but am really intrigued with the idea of being able to tap the neck pickup. i am guessing from trying to read between the lines of various threads/posts that i could not do BOTH,i.e.,vvt plus coil tap....?

Woody. This mod works very well. Like I mentioned before . I've had several pot configurations on this bass . This one is simple ,effective and I am very happy someone found this and shared how to do it. My 4004Cii is a Rathed 4-2-5. With this setup I can have the single coil tone for most of the 4 string work and then just back off the tone control to kick in the full HB1 sound when I need to use the B string. Im very happy with this

Just for the record, I had the concentric mod on my '02 CII and liked it alot better than the stock setup. I bypassed the switch though.
I have the V V T mod on my new Larado and prefer it over the concentric set up.
