C64 tuners, drop in replacements for V63?

Anyone know? Right now I have some tuners from the '90s that say Rickenbacker on the back and have larger bushings in front. I'm looking to switch them out for some more accurate ones.

When I tried that on this 4003
http://rickresource.com/register/user_i ... llsize.jpg (currently being converted by Dale F into a 4001V68) it didn't quite work. The bushings on the C64 tuners are a bit smaller in diameter. Also the headstock was too thick (probably wouldn't be on your V63). And I seem to remember the screw pattern being slightly different, but this was over a year ago and now I'm not so sure about that.
I think I'm gonna try again though with this '92 4001V63:

Maybe the C64 bushings could be wrapped in some sort of tape. Hopefully I'll get around to it soon. I think the C64 tuners would go a long way toward making a 4001V63 look more authentic.

I did this on my '93 V63, and I did need to wrap a small strip of tape around one of the bushings to get it to seat solidly, but otherwise everything else worked - holes lined up, etc. An additional issue is that, currently, I am using the rubber pads between the tuners and headstock, and as it is, the tuners are a little shy of ideal protrusion. Once I can get the wood and finish work done, I am intending to route the headstock for the little "relief" holes as on the vintage basses that came stock with those types of Klusons (Fenders et al have those routes too), and thus ditch the little rubber jobbies and gain back that 1/16" or so.

+1! And
feel more so as well. I grew up with the so-called "reverse wind" Klusons on my mother's 4005, so it always felt weird to tune a bass the so-called "correct" way. Of course, once I got the C64 tuners, it took a while to retrain myself again after years of using the stock ones, especially on stage in moments of non-equanimity! But I think I'm finally getting back there now.
