Gents, anyone have a lead on a good source for the type of binding used on Ric bodies? Any good substitutes?

If you're referring to the so-called"Checkerboard" purfling used to lend unique flavor to the deluxe Rickenbacker models of today, it's available from www.shellex.de, but only in large quantities. Smaller sources have dried up.

The white binding is available from www.axinc.net (Axiom) in genuine celluloid, or from places like LMI and Stew-Mac (ABS).

On the left hand frame, under model: 360/12 WBBT..i have the black trim.I thought this would be a neat look though i really like vintage fireglow finishes, but don't know how it would look with black hardware!Do you know what size i would need to obtain this look?

You'll need .060 X .250 black material. Sometimes the binding rabbet is routed a bit deep, and 1/4" is a bit short. In such cases, I rip the binding from a piece of black ABS sheet to slightly over 1/4" in width. Black binding is ABS, incidentally. White can be either ABS or celluloid, depending upon the vintage of the instrument.

Paul, has anyone ordered the larger quantity to distribute in smaller packages? I would be willing to if nobody else has.

Scott, I know that Joe at Tonewerks had a shipment a couple of years ago, but he's long since run out.

I'll add my name to the list too. I've got a 4001 I'd like to re-do with CB.

I got some of that batch from Joe at Tonewerks a few years back when he got a lot in.

I'd be up for at least one bass's worth if we're talking about ordering a large batch.

I wouldn't mind having a guitar's worth of checkered binding.

I'd like 20 strips of the checkered binding, please.

Maybe we should form a CB buying group here and see if the numbers cumulate to a "large quantity" as defined by Shellex?
