Went to Pick of the Ricks today to pick up my Cii that Chris modded for me, Chris you are hands down the best in the bussiness, your work is second to none and now my Cii is my dream bass, a million thank you's for your professionalism and great skill, my bass now is wired VT/VT, and the action is perfect now, she truely now is the bass I want her to be, still say they should be built this way from the start, the stacked knobs are beautiful and the bass looks even more gorgeous to me, I just cant thank you enough for your effort, well to make a long story short not only did I take my Cii home but the midblu Larado he had in stock also went home with me too, will most likely have you doing the same mod to this one too. hell you can go to the bank on it, well thanks again to you Mr Clayton,you are truely a great man and a even greater friend, you are the best,

Yes, sounds like a cool mod! I've heard references to that mod, and after a bit of searching on the forum, was unable to come up with much on the details. Do you have a pointer to some, or can you tell me a bit more about it? Since I now have a 4004Cii, I just might be interested in doing this mod!

Sounds like a great mod, I'm glad you're happy with the results. Chris was telling me he was going to do your mod when I bought my Cii and disucssed doing the V/V/T mod on mine. I was torn between doing the VT/VT stack like you and V/V/T but I finally decided on the 3 knob setup, I was a bit nervous about doing it myself but it turned out to be a pretty fun project. I'd love to see some pics of yours. I'm actually going by POTR with my Cheyenne on Sat to check out a used Bass Amp. I'm also looking forward to seeing the Laredos he just got in (minus the one you just picked up!!) I couldn't agree with you more about Chris' dedication to his customers. Believe me, there are a lot of things I don't like about living in Jersey, However, living so close to POTR makes up for a lot of the misery!!

Ok the idea came for the mod because I like to control and the tone for each pick up, I love the bass but really didnt like the single vol and tone for both pick ups, as far as the tech part, you would have to ask Chris he figured it all out with the pods and knobs, however imop, this bass is second to none now, I love the stacked knbs , no need to drill a new hole,all I can tell you is if your considering it, dont, just do it, you will love the control over each pick up you will have and the tonal possibilities are astronomical, Im very happy with the mod, as I said,I think these basses should have been like this from the get go, am going to have my new Larado modde the same, it just make it so much more a unbeliveabl bass, I think anyone that owns a Cii or Larado should have this mod done, because the end result speaks for itself.

It's funny you say that, I was thinking the same thing about the V/V/T!!

I've always played 4001's or 4003's so I'm completely used to having separate V & T for each, this single V/T on the Cii bothers me a bit. I can't say if I like it or hate it since my new bass is waiting to get to temperature before I open it (just arrived today!). Anyway, thanks for the info, sounds like CHris @ POTR is the guy to talk to about details!

oh great, ANOTHER wiring option to have to choose from! seriously, i can't make my little mind up on any of these great sounding ideas.......the split coil mod, V V T, OR VT VT???? BUT, i wil do something eventually......glad you like your new bass(es),ricaddic!

For anyone who is interested , it's not that hard to install the stacked pots yourself. I bought them and used a schematic from a Fender stack knob jazz. Worked fine. Pulled them later and did the split coil mod, which for me is even better.

Can you guys suggest where/what type of stacked knobs you guys used?

I'm assuming they are available in Gold Tone as well?

I'm not in any rush to change anything on my 4004Cii BBR just yet, but I'd like to get them for future possibilities.

You keep the switch I'm assuming...I like that! VT/VT, I like the sound of that better than the VVT mod....

If you do the VT/VT mod you keep the switch, if you do the V/V/T mod you don't. Both mods are based on Fender Jazz circuits that you can find on the internet. If you're handy with a soldering iron the mods are very simple. For my V/V/T mod I did have to enlarge the switch hole slightly for the extra pot. To do the VT/VT I think you may have to enlarge the existing holes as Ric used some very small diameter shaft pots for the existing Vol and Tone Pots. Generally stacked pots are a little bit larger in diameter. Regardless, it won't show with the knobs installed. It's not difficult, you just need to be willing to take a drill to your new $2000 Bass! As for the parts to do either mod, check out Mojo Music Supply. They carry just about every type of pot and knob you could ever want.

Did you need to enlarge the existing holes to fit the stacked pots? I'd love to see pics.
