You Sir, are definitely NOT alone!! It's one of the main reasons why I bought mine...that and the fact that it's the sexiest bass in the world!!

ahh good to know

yeah that really attracted me as well from the first sighting , and now that I have some playing time on it , it's simply a no fuss around win/win/win choice .

Actually, I really do appreciate the simplicity of the 4004 controls. It is kind of a pain in the butt to have a bunch of knobs you have to mess with. In my case however, I have a certain sound I like to use which so far, I haven't been able to achieve with the 4004. It's OK, but I really want something more towards the tone I can get with my 4001 & 4003. With those, I do use stereo & 2 amp channels to adjust the tonality of the 2 pickups separately. So, in addition to the V/T V/T stacked knob mod, I'm thinking I'll add a stereo out too and maybe even split 1 or both pickups for single coil.
I don't know if I'll get a sound I like or not, but everything will be done so as to allow things to be put back to original condition. In any case, it'll be fun playing around with it!

As for me, my ears are shot and my playing style is rudimentary at best so all of the knobs in the world won't make my bass sound any better!!

After having the stack knobs , the stacks with the switch, the original switch with V,T. Im very happy with the switch + volume + tone + single coil split.

I do like simplicity in controls, and do not own any amps with eq's, effects, or any other additional knobs. Volume, bass, mid and treble are all I want on an amp. However, I do prefer having one volume and one tone for each pup. When I finally get a 4004, I believe I will need to modify it with either additional pots for each pup, or go stacked. But, that will remain to be seen.

Too simple for me. I prefer V/V/T.
1. Hipshot style "A" bridge mod. ( I cant stress enough how much I recommend this bridge for the 4004 ).
2. Hipshot O-ring knob mod.

Hey Scott that is a killer bass , funny thing I actually ried to put the orings on mine but they didn't fit , the pot shafts seemed just a little to big . That is a sweet bridge and I was wondering why you recommend it and also what is the proper string spacing as they offere several . Lastly does it not need the base plate the combi needs ? um not that I would mod mine or anything

You may have gotten knobs for metric sized pot shafts. Those are 6mm (0.2363 inch) instead of the 0.25 inch U.S. size.

I always prefer more tonal options rather than fewer. That's part of why I was really taken with my 4003--how many basses have two tone knobs? Bass magazines tend to rip this configuration to shreds but I love it.
