Over that past six months, I've been lucky enough to acquire two left-handed 12 string Rics that I haven't been able to bond with. I sold the 360v64/12 within a month of receiving it and now I considering letting the 660/12 go.

It seems that every time I start playing the 660/12, I put it down after about playing one half of a song and then start the song over again with the 360/12 CW. It was basically the same way with the 360v64/12.

That terrible news...so sorry.
Maybe you should send them to me for a very long analysis of what the problem could be!!
Seriously though...I assume you've had them set up properly?
If those pesky left handed guitars are taking up too much room, I got a place they can stay...rent free!

Yes, all three were set up by the same tech that I've been using for years.

Richard you should try a 360C63. You'll never look back.

Interesting dilemma- What exactly was it you didn't like about them? Sometimes small differences in the "feel" of a guitar makes me feel that way- subtle differences in the body shape/contours , neck shape , bridge location etc.

I know a lot of people really like the wider neck on the 660's. I'm not so crazy about it, it feels odd to me. I have 6 string guitars but when I go back and forth between my 660 and 360, the 360 get's a lot more time. I LOVE the way the 660 looks with all of the deluxe features but I prefer the thinner neck guitars to play.

I guess that's why they make both!

Richard, it's not you at all...some people like what they like. Do you like the sound of hollowbody 12-strings over solid bodies? Do you like the narrower neck of your 360/12CW to the wider neck of your 660/12?

There are a lot of things to consider, but don't let it go, after all, you DID say it was a keeper.

Perhaps you're turning into a right handed player...

Lots of people don't understand it....but at least in my experience, there is a definite bonding period with guitars. I can have two identical guitars, and inevitably one will sound better or feel better to me. It can make no sense in terms of spec, age, color, style etc....

Like I prefer vintage guitars, but i've had reissues that just felt better and sounded better than the vintage twin. Naturally I kept the worse playing vintage one because i'm completely senseless but guitars are funny like that.

Similarly, if I don't gel with a guitar, it's obvious in about 24 hours or less. Sometimes I'll convince myself that it's worth keeping, but invariably- a couple weeks later I realize it's just not working out.

The major exception to this is gifted guitars (never sell) !

That's actually very interesting Richard. I like my 660/12, but I play my 610/12 more. For some reason the narrower neck feels better in my hand. It must be the same with the CW. BTW, did you get the pickup working ? You said one of them was dead when you got it.

I don't think its just you...I had one of the last 370/12 WB's to leave the factory that I kept for a few years then sold. It was stunning but I just couldn't manage the string spacing, or get the classic sound out of it - probably due to the Hi-Gains. About 4 years ago I bought a 660/12 that I thought was pretty great, but still tough to play. I'd try other 12-strings in shops and they just played easier than the 660/12 so most of the time it stayed in its case. About 2 months ago I tried to bond with it again to no avail. So I finally packed it in and traded it for a non-Rickenbacker guitar. I still feel the lure of the Rickenbacker 12 but I know I'll never buy one again, I'll stick with my 6-string models. Its kind of a bummer because they are so cool, but I just don't get along with them darn Rickenbacker 12-string guitars.

I put myself into a position to have to play nothing else but the 660/12; I brought it along on the current business trip.

I think the 660s are great looking but I like the regular width fretboard better.
