I have the opportunity to get an all original 1966 P Bass in sunburst. In order to get it, I would have to trade my JG 4001C64S and a Fender Jazz relic CS in LPB. If you were in this situation would you go for it? Thanks

I am a big fan of older P basses, Yes I would make the trade for an early 60' P some of these a have an A type neck which is slender and fast (same as the old tele basses were) the later ones have a C type neck which are wider and heavier the 60's types are rare and they have wonderful tone. A good friend has a 1969 Percision nice bass.

This would be a Precision bass. And it is pretty light weight. I already have an identical 64 P bass and also a 64 Jazz. But the 66 is very tempting too

It is hard to say without seeing the basses in question but dollar-wise, a good to great '66 Precision might be worth the trade. Are you planning to gig with the '66 or is more of a collector's piece?

Probably gig with, but I don't play out too much, so it wouldn't be beat up.

If you are a Fender person, yes. If not, no. The 4001c64 bass is going out of production, think about that.

It depend how good the P-bass is, and/or how important the "true vintage" vibe is to you. Just 'cause it's a '66, doesn't mean it's a brilliant bass. I've seen some mid-'60s Fenders in great cosmetic condition with major quality-control issues. Given the P-bass is sunburst, the monetary value of the trade is no better than "fair" provided the P-bass is a great player and is in excellent condition.

Given you have a '64 P-bass, you understand the sonic pros and cons. It's all down to subjective preferences.

Given that you already have those two '64 Fenders, I would say no to the trade. What will the '66 Precision offer you that you do not have with the '64? Unless it is a slab body and/or have paddle tuners I don't see the point in the trade. I would keep the Rick and offer the relic Jazz and money instead.

I would if the P was in great shape, not if it was beat up .I love the oval tuners that came out in 1966 ....

I have to agree with Scott and Jeffrey. You also better be really sure that the '66 P bass is for real!! Just this past weekend Tony and I were in a music store and saw this particular brand of reliced P-bass with no name on the headstock. All it needed was a vintage style decal for the headstock (which can be found) and unless you REALLY know your F*nd*r instruments, it could be a fooler, just like some people get fooled by a Rickenfaker.

No Way for a "P" bass. If it was a '66 CAR Jazz Bass with matching headstock, paddle tuners I'd do it in a heartbeat. You're JG C64 is a rare bass hold onto it.
