Why is it that Rm1999s sound different to other Rickenbacker basses?
Is it due to more wood (no triangles) left in the neck?
Or perhaps a romantic myth cultivated by Rm1999 owners...
I sure wish Mike still played a bit like this at times...

Great memories, for sure as that was the first Rick bass I ever saw in concert, in April '72, during Genesis' first US tour, as an opening act for It's A Beautiful Day.

It was custom built for mike using a 65 4001 and a guitar (I can't remember what model) by a UK (I think) luthier.
It was stolen and it's current location is unknown.
I believe it was a major part of the inspiration for the 4080.

It was certainly the major part of the inspiration for the 4080 I bought in '76...I went to Santa Ana to see if they'd build me one, and they told me (insert John Cleese's
outrageous French accent here): "We already got one..."

Man, ain't that the truth...

Now, who would
ever suggest such a thing!
But, can Squire, Macca, WeeMac, Wints, Fergusson, not to mention Gallo and the gang, be wrong?
Surely not...

Eden, Michael Rutherford's custom Ric doubleneck was never stolen and he still has it. He made it available to Genesis cover band extraordinaire, The Musical Box (
http://www.themusicalbox.net/archives/), to make a duplicate (left handed) for their show. Not sure where your info comes from.

When I saw TMM last year, their lefty Rutherford played the DN but I saw some discrepancies, so it is not an exact copy, AFAIK.

I didn't know that! In that case my information is a wasted post...

Bill Wyman seems to be the only bassist in the UK who did not play a RM1999. It would have suited his style of playing well, too.

Bill was a short scale kind of guy...Anyway, it was Keef always playing "real" bass, wasn't it!
