I've got a 620 and a 330, both with high gain pickups. I ordered a pair of new toasters through the Ric Boutique and they arrived today. My question is... which guitar should I try them in? I was thinking the 330, but now I'm not so sure. Hmm... Any preference?

Also, I've never changed pickups in a Ric before. I've done it to a Telecaster, though. I assume I'll just need to take the pickguards off, unsolder the old pickups, and solder the new ones exactly like the old ones. Is this correct? Is there anything unusual to watch out for when doing the pickup swap?

Which one do you think sounds better right now, with the Hi Gains? Put the Toasters in the other one.

Is there one with the newer hi-gains? If there is, I'd go with the other one for the Toasters.

Both guitars have the newest version of high gains.

I say toast the 330 because it will get you that classic sound...no doubt about it.

I would consider putting the toasters in the 620 due to it having 21 frets.

+ 1. I really like the way that my 330 with the newer Hi Gains sounds. I'd be more inclined to mod the 620.

I'd suggest you put one toaster in each in the bridge position and see if you like them in either or both. If you don't like it in one and do in the other, move the toaster to the other's neck position. If you like them in both, either leave it as is with the HiGain in the neck or get another set to put in the neck positions.

I concur with Jake about the natural affinity between hollow-body and toaster p'up. MMMmmmmm, good!

Are Rick toaster and high gain neck and bridge pickups interchangeable? Or are each of the pcikups specifically made for the neck or bridge position?

My vote is to put them in the 330 as well. That body shape just begs for a set of toasters.

I put toasters in my 330, and they sound great, really gave the guitar a clearer sound that distorts nicely when you overdrive it. The above suggestion about putting one in the bridge position of each will really answer your question. Leave them in for a few days just to make sure.

Swapping the puckups is a snap. Both pickups attach to the selector switch, and the ground wires are close by. It shouldn't take you any longer to solder them in than it will to mount them. Keep in mind, those vintage grommetts can be a pain, and facilitate feedback. The foam pads work much better, IMHO, but of couse the choice is yours.

I found with my former 610 that the high gain in the neck position tends to be muddy.
