Think your drummer's obnoxious?

Take a look at this guy's 'stage presence':

And, lest anyone harbor the thought that this guy's antics are caused by something 'cultural', here's another Korean drummer with far more skill and a much saner onstage demeanor...(and is that what I think it is on the stand in front of the kit?):

That first guy could work for me if he wore a Godzilla costume while he played

Man, what was in that first drummer's coffee that day?!

Our former drummer was usually great during our performances; it was before and after that we had to worry about him...usually something to do with finding an excuse to want to rip someone's head off, or get his butt kicked in an attempt to do so!

The drummer in my old band (a) wasn't a great drummer, (b) would INSIST on taking over the announcing job once a night even though he was terrible at it and asked not to, (c) was a chronic complainer, and (d)... did I mention that he wasn't a very good drummer?

BUT he he was very unselfish in setup and breakdown, worked hard and (as a weightlifter) had the muscles to be a big help. Thats a whole lot more than I can say for some other drummers I've run into who seem to think that setting up and breaking down their own kit is ALL they ever need to do.

For the most part, I think drummers simply must be from another planet. There is simply no other explanation.

Hey!...I believe I've been on the receiving end of this line of criticism before...

I can't speak for all the drummers out there...but:

a) I'm a very good drummer; b) I'm equally good at announcing, and am frequently asked to do so;....however, c) I can, on occasion, be a chronic complainer:

"Hey, this "chronic" that guy just sold us tastes like schwag!"

The only thing that causes me to relate to this is that when I was a freshman in college I went to an international jazz festival with my university. A Korean band showed up--all the guys were extremely overweight and had the most awful stage presence, just like that drummer. BUT they kicked everyone's butts. They were really, really good and both horn players had "perfect pitch". The bassist was a big yawn though--probably got beaten up any time he played any rhythm that deviated from quarter notes. Also, I'm not sure, but I kind've think they were ten years older than the rest of us...??

The problem with the first drummer... no Rickebacker presence on the stage. I'm sure a Ric mojo would have corrected the drummer's dazzle...

We all know the most obnoxious drummer of them all. Getting hit by Roger, Pete and John on many occasions, making their Russell Harty interview all his own and doing "Too Much of Anything" (Who Pun)
