Good work, nice lighting and contrast, the latter which seems to be lacking in lots of b&w these days.

One of the hardest things to do is get the chromework to be bright; even I have difficulty with that depending on the lighting I use and the angle of the shot without the source being reflected in the shiny finish of the instrument. For this photo of my 4003 I used a 4'x4' piece of foamcore with a reflector flood aimed at it (in addition to other lights for the instrument itself) to bounce light into the chrome; it took a lot of moving the bass and camera around to minimize any unsightly reflections, as a little goes a long way.

The McGuinn RIC was shot with a Canon Xsi SLR digital camera. the lighting was indirect natural daylight (on a sunny day), the intensity of which was controlled by wooden window shutters.

After converting the colored digital image to B&W, I increased the contrast a bit. I think this enhanced the white of the pickguard and emphasized the wood grain.

By the way, fantastic bass photo...I like the way you controlled reflection, eliminating harsh highlights on the guitar finish.
