Can anyone recommend a case?

I have a 620/12JG and I would like to get a non-Rick case for it ( my cases take a beating with gigs etc.) Would a generic Strat/Tele case work? Any suggestions much appreciated!

A universal hard case might work, but honestly, I would go for a standard Rickenbacker case. It sounds like you have the older style case that is tolex covered. The newer 600 series cases are made my SKB and are made of the same hard ABS material that the aftermarket cases you are looking at are probably made of. My 360 has one of these cases and many gigs later, it has still held up nicely. An older style case covered in tolex would look pretty ragged by now.

Frank, I've had both kinds (the SKB and the Black Tolex), and if I had to go on the road it would be with the form-fitting Tolex. Sure it shows the scuffs but it's made of thick, tough plywood underneath. I found the SKB stays nice-looking but it's not as tough as it looks; I believe it would shatter on a point impact and the rail around the edge bends real easy. I also have a non-form-fit black case that's slightly less sturdy than the form-fit, but it may be tougher still than the SKB. If I had to choose there's no question about it, the form-fit black case wins. But if I was really going on the road I'd get anvil-style road cases. The standard guitar cases are pretty much made for the trunk of your car only, IMHO.

Cheers, Frank!

I agree on every one of Kira's points. A nice Anvil with the foam cut to provide a slip-fit for the Rick is the way to go as far as durability is concerned.

Thanks for all your replies! Kira, I also agree with all your observations. All my Ricks are in the Rick/SKB original cases which are fine for at-home / in-trunk use. But , for example, the Fender Molded case for my Am.Std. Tele has a nice triangular hole the size of a quarter in it right now from our last gig. Took a hit from a PA cab in the truck on a hard right turn ,I'm told
I didn't want to get into Anvil due to the weight. I'm checking out some options now, thanks again for the input.
