We heard this last week on XM 59 (which is a great station for guitars). We fell over from Ric overload. We immediately bought the song from iTunes, but are restricted from posting it here. Here's a YouTube version, which just barely does it justice, but you get the idea. Great lick. Looks like a 360/12 with some of the pickguard cut off. Buy the song off of iTunes. (It's called "Golden Age" and is the first song in this set.)

Very cool. I love some Midnight Oil. "Best of Both Worlds" is one of my favorite songs ever.

Pretty good, although I liked the song with the Rickenbacker in it better.

Hey Tom and Matthew...excellent taste, fellers. MO is one of my favorite bands...saw 'em open for UB40 in '85 on The Pier in Manhattan. A gigantic electrical storm hit the city during their set, and big bolts of lightning were blasting the buildings behind the stage. Peter Garrett said at one point: "Looks like yer gettin' a bit wet...I'll come out 'n' join ya"...which he proceeded to do with a wireless mic, and got soaked with the crowd. I'll never forget that show.

I've covered all of the following tunes in one band or another over the years, many of them 'on the ice' (the 'Kiwis' loved 'em)...mostly on drums, as fate would have it, but sometimes on bass or guitar...here, in no particular order, are "me fav's":







The whole band is great, and Garrett is absolutely right on...but that drummer's a 'god'...these tunes were fantastically fun to play.

Midnight Oil is one of the coolest bands in the world. I was watching the video for Blue Sky Mining where they are in the desert (cracked earth) floor. Their guitar player is playing one of the coolest 360F/12 in autumnglo I believe. I remember when I was in college I bought that cassette and wore it out. One of my favorites. I wish I could've seen them live back then. Diesel and Dust rules!!

There are some great songs on Earth And Sun And Moon, also.

It's a Rick knockoff built by Sydney luthier Piers Crocker...I believe he's ceased and desisted now.

love midnite oil!- so many favorite songs,dreamworld definitely,the guitar sound on that is fantastic. "in the valley" and "stars of warburton" are 2 other faves-i need to get their concert dvd.

I believe that 360F/12 is legit. I have been advised Martin also owns an RM1993 after discussions I have had with a certain guitar shop in Sydney.

Piers doesn't have much to do with Rickenbackers anymore. I believe he refers most people to Frank Grubisa now.

It looked like a legit 360F to me, but what do I know. I just really like the band and their sound. I love all their albums and wish they were still touring. A good friend of mine caught them in Gainesville FL in the early 90's. If we could only reverse the clock.....
By the way, the heck with more cowbell, how about more harmonica. Wonderful sound mixed with those edgey riffs. That's what the world needs more of in my opinion.....Rickenbacker 12 strings w/ a dash of harmonica.

It's the real deal. Piers didn't start making them until around the mid-90's, that Blue Sky Mine video was released in 1990. Also... Piers never used the Rickenbacker logo on his truss rod covers and his guitars used Guild tailpieces. As far as Crockenbackers go, I got to have a strum of Dean Manning's at a mate's gig and it's a nice guitar. The neck on it felt more like a Telecaster to me and was very playable. I'd love to see Rickenbacker reissue the 360F one day.

Thanks for clearing that up, Rod!

When even new Ricks are as rare as they are in Oz, an F/12 (and a later one, at that!) would be something that only a touring musician with deep pockets (or a very obsessed amateur ) could score.
